About Sage
Looking for a loyal and driven, fully trained companion?
Meet Sage—a remarkable Dobermann ready for her perfect home!
At Dobermann.Club, we're passionate about rescuing and rehoming Dobermanns, carefully matching each dog with knowledgeable, responsible families. We understand that adopting a Dobermann is a life-changing commitment, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
🦴 Physical Trauma & Lasting Impact
Sage arrived in care with significant muscle tension and stiffness—signs of chronic discomfort likely caused by:
Incorrect walking equipment, such as ill-fitting collars or harnesses that restricted her shoulder movement or placed pressure on sensitive areas.
A previous handler who dragged on the lead, applying unnatural force through the lead while shifting his excess body weight onto Sage, causing strain and inflammation in her neck, shoulders, and spine.
These conditions contributed to:
Chronic inflammation in soft tissues and joints.
Myofascial pain syndrome, where tight, sensitive muscle groups create lingering pain and tension.
Compensatory muscle patterns, where certain muscles are overused to protect weaker or injured areas, leading to imbalance and potential re-injury.
Thanks to months of expert care, including hydrotherapy, cold laser, stretching, and soft tissue work, Sage has bounced back beautifully. But her body needs consistent, low-impact conditioning to stay healthy. Future adopters must be committed to:
Routine muscle massage and stretching (which Sage adores—she actively seeks help with it).
Continued use of supportive, properly fitted walking gear—such as a Y-front harness that allows full shoulder range without pressure points.
Gentle, balanced handling that avoids pulling, dragging, or sudden leash pressure.
🧠 Behavioural and Emotional Considerations
While Sage is incredibly affectionate and engaged, there are subtle echoes of her past in the way she relates to the world.
Key Emotional Traits:
Hypervigilance in new environments—she’s watchful and seeks reassurance from her handler, especially around strangers.
Low tolerance for unclear direction—without routine and leadership, her drive can become frustration, expressed through vocalisation or restlessness.
Guarded with new people and some dogs—especially those who are too forward or unpredictable. She's not a fan of cats, and is selective about canine companions, although she has lived peacefully with stable small dogs and showed affection toward a calm male Dobermann.
The Good News:
Sage is not “damaged.” She’s highly responsive to clear leadership, structure, and positive reinforcement. Once trust is built, she becomes:
Extremely compliant in handling—easy to groom, clean, and tend to physically.
A joyful, cheeky, ball-obsessed worker—thriving in tasks that use her mind and muscles.
Deeply affectionate and bonded—she leans into her person for emotional support and touch.
🔁 Long-Term Management
To support Sage’s long-term physical health and emotional wellbeing, her future family will need to commit to a holistic and structured care routine.
This includes:
✅ Consistency in daily routines, clear expectations, and calm leadership.
✅ Structured outlets for her drive and intelligence—think ball games, tug, and scent work to keep her mind and body engaged.
✅ Safe, low-conflict socialisation with calm, well-mannered dogs—always with supervision and sensitivity to her comfort.
✅ Gentle, balanced handling—no dragging, yanking, or abrupt corrections. Sage thrives under calm, respectful guidance.
✅ Regular bodywork such as hydrotherapy, massage, and stretching to maintain mobility, comfort, and muscular balance.
✅ A biologically appropriate raw diet with variety and digestive support. Her ideal diet includes:
Grated vegetables and fruits blended into fresh lamb, chicken, beef, or game meats (excluding kangaroo).
Minced meats, eggs, sardines, and other fish.
Raw or lightly cooked offal (lamb, beef, or chicken liver).
Yoghurt with kefir for gut health.
Plain, preservative-free biscuits.
Raw bones such as beef brisket bones and chopped chicken frames (she’s especially fond of beef), which help support gut integrity, hydration, and stool quality.

💚 Final Thoughts
Sage is the kind of dog who gives her whole heart—but only to someone who earns it through consistency, fairness, and understanding. She is not suited to first-time dog owners or life as a casual backyard pet. Sage is a partner, a working soul, and a tender companion who longs to be both protector and cuddler.
Her trauma does not define her, but it has shaped her needs. With the right person, Sage will become that once-in-a-lifetime Dobermann.
The adoption fee reflects the high level of care Sage has received since arriving into our care, including:
Ongoing hydrotherapy
Cold laser and cryotherapy treatments
Veterinary oversight
Professional training sessions to support her confidence and adaptability
Premium raw nutrition
Exposure to multiple skilled handlers to support her socialisation and build trust
All of this has been crucial in helping Sage overcome the health concerns that led to her surrender, allowing her to flourish physically and emotionally.
We understand that adoption fees can be a barrier, and at times, generous donations allow us to reduce costs for approved homes.
While we are currently unable to lower Sage’s adoption fee further, we do offer payment plans for vetted homes, detailed in our legal adoption contract.
We're actively working on our 2025 fundraising program, which we hope will enable more support for future adopters.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions; she is in excellent shape and fitness given the above information. for Sage's lifetime.
