About Betty
Time has come for Betty to start looking for a loving home.
Betty is a Greyhound that has been in our care since July 2024. When she entered our care from the pound she was 19kg's. Betty is now 25kg's and looking great.
Info about Betty.
Betty is a beautiful friendly girl. She loves to meet new people and is very happy when they come and say hello to her. She is comfortable meeting dogs of all sizes however we are not sure about tiny fluffy dogs. A few weeks ago someone was walking past the foster carers house with a small dog on a lead, Betty and her greyhound pack was reactive. We suspect though it was initiated by the other greyhounds in her foster home.
Betty has seen cats from a distance; she is interested in them but does not show a strong prey drive. Over time and with training she may be able to live with a cat.
Betty enjoys going for a walk and walks very well on the lead usually at her foster carers side with a slack lead. She is happy if her walks last 20 minutes or 1 hour plus.
Betty is house trained and she gets on well with the other dogs and does not show any sigh of resource guarding and if another dog takes the toy she is playing with she will either wait for the other dog to stop playing with it or go and get another toy.
Meal/Treat time is no longer a problem - initially she would rush and grab, but that was understandable. Betty has learnt that she will not miss out on either food or a treat. She now waits until her name is called and she then knows that that meal/treat is for her.
Betty will often only eat part of her breakfast and go back to it a little later. She usually eats her evening meal in one sitting. It is great she now knows the feeling of being satisfied/full.
Betty loves to snuggle up with her owner either on the couch or on the bed. She often spends the night sleeping on the bed next to her foster carer. She will get down of the bed/couch when asked to. She will also come up to you at random asking for some attention but will leave you alone if told ‘finish’.
Betty enjoys playing with her toys especially the squeaky ones. She is happy to play alone with her toys but enjoys them being thrown for her to chase. She would also be happy to play with another gentle dog. She also enjoys her zoomies which she will do a few times each week.
We think that Betty would be happy as an only dog or with another gentle dog. We suspect that, given time, she may even be able to live with cats.
We believe Betty would be fine with children of any age however she does, very occasionally, jump up so further training would be needed if she was to live with very small children.
Betty is a beautiful gentle soul who is quite easy to train and willing to learn, so training her to live with cats and/or small children should not be too difficult.
Betty has been flea & worm treated, vaccinated, desexed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $600.

Adoption details
We like to take the personal approach where a person sends an email of interest around an animal and then we will follow up with phone discussions and email exploration through a survey.
Please note we are a small group of volunteers that balances the administrative side with the care of the animals.
Please only apply for one of our animals if you are genuinely interested in them.
We expect the prospective owner to travel to meet the animal and we are open to trial periods to ensure we have the match right.
