Meet Lex,
About: Lex is a happy, friendly & loving girl. She is smart but a little aloof at times. Lex is best suited with an experienced owner. Although often lazy, she can be playful at times and is overall very affectionate & loves to engage with her human friends.
Lex is best suited to a calm & quiet home as she is a little sensitive to noise. Lex is very quiet & gentle dog - she's also a little lazy if we are being totally honest.
Ideal Home: Lex is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Access inside the home would benefit Lex as she loves to engage with her humans & would love nothing more than to be near you in her new home.
Family: Lex is open to meet kids of any age & is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Lex is best as only dog borderline dog selective. During her dog assessment she had loose body language but was a little unsure. Play bows were offered & sniffs were exchanged. But Lex was fine to do her own thing. She has previously lived with another dog but we think that as she is a little bit of a nervous Nelly, this may be getting in the way of her being open to make dog friends. But having said that, she may just also be happy being the only dog & doesn't need to live with another dog but the good thing is that you'll be able to have her near other dogs without issue.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Lex would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Lex would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
Lex is still learning her name, but she does know how to ‘sit’. She is sometimes food motivated, often taking treats from you gently, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. Lex doesn't jump ether.
With further training Lex could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Lex has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins per day to keep her happy. Lex is not very interested in playing with toys, she prefers to spend quality time with her human friends.
Lex walks well with minimal pulling & she is fine to be walked on a lead & collar or harness.
Staff Comments: Lex is a very sweet & calm dog. She is gentle, keen to explore, very curious & also toilet trained.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
