About Harley
Meet Harley, the 50-kilo cuddle bug with a heart as big as the open road. Like the iconic motorbike that shares his name, Harley is a free spirit who lives for the thrill of the journey, whether it's a romp through the backyard or a long walk exploring the world. He loves to ride the wind and soak up every new scent and sight, stopping along the way to smell the roses and enjoy all the little wonders life has to offer. With a playful yet gentle nature, Harley's zest for adventure is matched only by his love for being around his people.
Harley's favorite place is wherever you are, and he's not shy about letting you know-especially if it means climbing right onto your lap for a cuddle. Despite his size, he's convinced he's the perfect lap dog, and his affectionate nature will warm your heart every time. He has a special talent for snuggling and will happily settle in for hours of love, making him the ideal companion for anyone who appreciates a little (or a lot of) extra warmth and company.
Social and friendly, Harley gets along well with other dogs, and his ideal buddy would be one who's up for a little playful fun but also enjoys the occasional lazy day lounging in the sun. Whether it's roughhousing in the yard or lying side by side on the grass, Harley's happy to share the good times with a fellow furry friend.
Since Harley has a bit of a wanderer's spirit, good fencing is a must to keep this big boy safe and sound. He needs a secure yard where he can explore without the risk of following his adventurous nose too far. With the right setup, Harley can satisfy his love for the outdoors while staying safely within reach.
Harley is wonderful around kids of all ages, as long as they're comfortable with a big, bouncy dog who loves to follow them around. He's as gentle as he is exuberant, always careful and kind with little ones, though his size means he's better suited for families who understand his enthusiasm. With his kind eyes and loving spirit, Harley is much more than just a dog-he's a devoted companion ready to share in every moment, from life's big adventures to its coziest cuddles.
With Harley, you're not just getting a dog; you're getting a friend who's always ready for the next great ride, eager to feel the wind in his fur, and forever happy to be right by your side.
To book a meet and greet with Harley please phone 5441-2209 or email barcreception@bendigo.vic.gov.au . Due to the high volume of emails received, enquiries with a request for a specific appointment with phone details included will receive a response as priority over generic applications which state they are interested in meeting an animal.

Adoption details
BARC adoption officers will work with you to help you find a dog or cat that matches your needs, they will discuss things like yard fencing, exercise requirements, other pets and family members, lifestyle factors, and breed experience. To help make this as quick and easy as possible, we ask you complete and adoption questionnaire (located on our website, or you can complete on when you visit). This helps ensure that we are introducing you to the most suitable animals we have available.
We encourage all members of the household to attend a meet and greet with a pet prior to adopting an animal. If the animal being adopted is a dog, we will also require existing dogs in the household to attend the shelter as part of the meet and greet.
Holds can not be placed on animals over the phone, and can only be applied at the discretion of management.
