About Trix
Calm, smart, trainable, sweet, confident, special border collie!
This little fellow is a keeper. Trix is young and trainable as evidenced by the many commands he has mastered within the first fortnight with his foster family: sit, stand, down, settle, bed, come, spin, look, quiet. We've a smarty-pants Collie here!
He's even walking nicely to heel (for short periods) when continually encouraged with food rewards and his eagle-eyed focus suggests that a competition level focused heel is well within his reach. At only 4 months old this is an amazing start.
Combine those smarts with his border collie breed characteristics and you have a dog that you could enjoy dog sports with - perhaps Trick dog, agility or obedience - all are well within his capability.
He's already mastered crate training and has watched his foster sister at agility from the ringside in a crate, he sleeps quietly at night in a crate and he travels well in the car (also in a crate) - so far-flung adventures are available to you.
He has a lovely natural herding slinky walk when playing his foster sister, which leads me to believe that he might be a natural at that dog sport.
He's impressed us with his toilet training, only 3 little accidents in his two weeks here. Until recently he'd never been inside or worn a collar or experienced stairs - he is doing so well and quite frankly hard to part with. He's going to grow into an adult dog between 19 - 24kg. To add to his appeal this is a dog that wants to cuddle, building an engaged bond is not going to be at all difficult. He has been living in the inner west so his socialisation has included; traffic, planes, whizzing bicycles, runners, humans of all shapes and sizes, hair dryers, washing machines, the thermomix, basketballs, children, workmen noise (leaf blowers, drills)...
Ideal Home: Clearly this smart little pup must go to a family with the time and inclination to offer him a life of enrichment; both physical and emotional with a continuation of his training. He has been sleeping through the night, this has been in a crate in a bedroom. We are working on some separation anxiety as he cries for some time if you're not visible. He's both food and toy focused so training should be a breeze.
Suitability to Children: Trix is a confident and sweet boy who would likely be okay in a home with children.
Suitability to Other Pets: At his foster family he has been living harmoniously with another young dog (2 years old) and they have played well together, he has also been respectful of the two cats - a few times this has required management but he listens and I'm confident that a home with cats is within his scope.
Are you the right family for this beautiful boy?

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two-week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
