My name is Joe (or Joey as my foster mum calls me) and I'm a kelpie boy who just turned 2! I'm not quite sure how I got here as I was originally bought as a city pet dog, but my first parents knew that place was far too much for me so I was rehomed down in the country but then I found myself lost and all alone 300km away 🙁 I was really hungry and confused when the rangers found me. The great news is I've made my way to kind people and have made the bestest friends in my SAFE foster home. They promise me I'm going to find my very own family because they keep telling me I'm such a good boy and I deserve all the good this world has to offer because I just love everyone so I'm excited to meet you!
You can tell Joe was once loved as he responds incredibly well to positive reinforcement and is like a sponge, so the time is now to give this young boy the best chance possible to be a well rounded family pet. It has been pure joy watching him blossom is the short time we've had him. Joe can sit, stay, lay down, walks well on lead, is toilet trained and just wants someone to help him calm his monkey mind and trust life again. He currently lives with a 6 year old female kelpie and plays really well, understanding the cues when they both have had enough. It's obvious that he was not exposed to many things as a puppy as he is very curious it's very sweet (and entertaining) watching him discover the world around him.
He does have some kelpie quirks that would be best handled by someone that understands the working breed as his herding instincts kick in around movement of cars but he can snap out of it quickly and he is learning this behaviour is not acceptable.
His recall is AMAZING so you can take him to dog social areas. He has been around babies and children and can get a little excited around the bigger kids, but he gives the littlies space. He'll curl up into a tight ball in your lap and gives the best hugs! He is a big love bug with all dogs and humans. He sleeps in his bed inside and knows how to use the doggy door. He needs big off lead runs and walkies at least 45mins twice a day then could cope with part time workers. Joey is best suited to an active family with a gentle and strong leader that can continue training him so he reaches his potential which is infinite for this loving and clever boy.
Our adoption process includes a two week trial period to ensure you and your adopted pet are the right fit. Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview and a property inspection (as it is vital we rehome our animals to a safe, secure and suitable home).
The adoption fee of $650 assists to cover the costs of desexing, microchip, microchip ownership transfer, flea and worm treatment, vaccinations, vet check and a fitted Haqihana Harness if needed.
