About Chase
Chase is pretty amazing. Possibly the fastest dog to settle in since rescue, he's just been an absolute gentleman with amazing manners.
Chase has had a few homes in his short life, he is only approaching 1 year old. His dad was forced to surrender Chase, as he was going to prison, and didn't have anyone who could take his dog. The amazing thing is that Chase, despite being through so many hands, has clearly been well loved. He shows no trauma, he doesn't appear to have had any bad experiences, and he's all round perfect. Chase is exceedingly intelligent, he's a real joy to train as he can pick things up with such ease. Within 4 days, he was understanding he had to walk next to me, and stopped pulling on the lead. Within a week of arriving, he knows to sit and wait for food, only eating his dinner when given the ok. He already came here completely house trained. If I ask him not to do something, he stops right away. He knows how to sit and wait while his crate is opened, and then look for the "ok" sign before exiting. Same with going through doors and gates. He is super friendly, loves kids. He is a little protective over women, when on a walk, and strange men approach. But he is quick to listen and learn. He is great with other dogs. Probably not perfect with little dogs just yet, because he will greet them with puppy enthusiasm and this could overwhelm a little dog, so some maturity and guidance will benefit him in this area. He has apparently lived with a cat before, however this remains untested. He is not suitable with pocket pets at this stage, however he does not fixate on sheep/chickens, and is able to listen and take direction, so with training has great possibilities in all areas. He is a sponge, waiting for lessons, willing to please, and is an absolutely stunning dog. If I didn't have quite so many dogs myself, he would not be going for adoption, that's for sure!
Chase needs a special owner, that will continue to protect him from negative experiences, as all his previous owners have clearly done for him. He is the dog he is today, because he hasn't been put in a position where he becomes fearful or aggressive. Chase is a high energy, working dog. He is crate trained, doesn't dig or show any destructive tendencies (other than playfully stealing shoes and proudly prancing about with them), and is not an escape artist. He loves to be by your side, but has no separation anxiety. He is not storm/firework phobic. He needs a minimum of a 1 hour walk each day (1 solid hour, not split into 15 or 30min intervals). His owner needs to be fit, committed, and capable of spending this time with him. Chase needs an owner who is at least as smart as him. If you're part of this generation that doesn't want to say "no" to a dog, doesn't understand how to put beneficial boundaries in place, doesn't have time for a new best friend, then please don't bother applying. Chase will give you 100% of himself, he will always try his very best, the least I expect is for his new owner to match that commitment. He has masses of potential. With the right owner by his side, there is nothing he could not do. This dog is very much a gem.
