About Diesel
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Diesel (13.2kg)
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Kelpie x
BREED TRAITS: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and generally social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.
****************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, eager to please, friendly, active, sweet and playful. Diesel loves to be loved!
FAVOURITE THINGS: His people! Diesel is a bit of a velcro dog who gets very attached to his people and loves to spend time with them lapping up all the attention and cuddles he can get. He also loves to play with other dogs and getting out and about for a run.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s a very friendly boy who likes pretty much anyone he meets. And he’ll happily take all the cuddles you’re willing to give! He's also a very neat smaller sized dog weighing 13.2kg.
OTHER ANIMALS: Diesel enjoys the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play with them. He can get a bit jealous if another dog is getting the attention of his person and he will try to get in on the action. Now that Diesel is settling into his foster home he can be a little rough in play with the small resident dog – we think that he is finding his feet and pushing boundaries that should settle in time. He would be better suited to a dog only home as he shows a bit too much interest in the cats and free range chickens at his foster home.
GENERAL INFO: Diesel will need some lead training as he tugs on the lead and wants to be around other dogs when he sees them – he is not yet used to being restrained on the lead and so may also bark at unknown dogs. He is housetrained but will need some time to settle into his new routine, so expect some accidents while he’s getting the hang of things. He loves his food and can be a little possessive over it so will need to be fed separately from any other dogs. He will bark when someone is at the door and also barks occasionally when playing or running around. He doesn’t like to be left alone and will yowl and bark. He’s been doing great with command training in his foster home and has fairly good recall. He knows the command sit but chooses to ignore it at times! He’s a smart cookie so further training will be a breeze for him.
ESSENTIALS for Diesel:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for a good part of the day or can take him with them when they go out – he also needs a home with plenty of cuddle time!
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Diesel needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Diesel will flourish with some good training to use his smart brain – he has never been encouraged to be mentally active and this will be excellent for his development.
**Diesel needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
Diesel could live with dog-savvy, gentle older children (over 10) who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He can be a little nippy if you push him away and he loves to invade your personal space so children would need to be old enough to work with his behaviours. He could also enjoy the company of another dog, around his size, in his new home, or at the least have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Diesel sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
