About Chai - 8 Week Old Kelpie X (On Trial)
Meet Chai, an 8-week-old, Kelpie cross girl who is not only the largest of her siblings, but by far the bravest! The leader of the group, this gorgeous pup isn’t afraid of anything and is the picture of intelligence and courage. She cuts a striking image with her gorgeous tan and black Kelpie coat, and her long legs instantly stand her out from the pack. She loves to tease her older foster siblings and has no qualms letting her carers know when she needs something. Her brave demeanor shouldn't be mistaken for coldness though, as she is the first one to stick up for her foster siblings. She very quickly took the runt of the litter under her care, and can always be seen defending him from the wrestling matches of their other siblings.
Chai has been raised by loving foster carers in a home environment, and has shown her brave nature towards every dog she meets (no matter the size!). However, she shows no aggression towards people and everyone who meets her loves how confident she is. She has shown no tendencies towards chasing cats or birds, but will give them a nice little warning bark if they’re too close to her yard. She is a very curious puppy who loves to explore the world around her, and she has already been on camping trips with her carers where she loved running around, and chasing her foster siblings.
Chai will grow up to be a medium/large dog. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training. As she is a mixed working breed dog, Chai is already showing that she is a highly intelligent and energetic girl and will require a family who is able to cater to this by taking her for regular walks and ensuring her enrichment needs are met at home. She would love to be a part of every adventure your family goes on.
As Chai is so young, she would benefit immensely from having a confident and calm dog friend at home to help guide her as she grows. If you don't have another dog to keep her company, then there needs to be someone at home with her all day, making sure she is the centre of their world.
Chai needs to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown. She needs to be kept nice and warm, and would love a comfy bed with soft toys and blankets to nestle into. She is already showing that she is a pro with toilet training and with consistent access to the outdoors, she rarely has accidents indoors.
She will be a lovely family dog and with the right training, socialisation and enrichment, she will be suitable for families with children of any age. You will need good fencing with no small gaps and it must be at least 6ft tall. She can't go to any properties which have rural fencing (eg: mesh or wire).
Chai’s siblings, Basil, Chilli, Jammy, Oreo, Clover, Salt, and Pepper, are also available for adoption and would love to meet their forever families.
Chai’s adoption fee is $700 which includes her desexing when she is old enough. It also includes her first two vaccinations. She has been treated for fleas and worms, and is microchipped.
Chai is in foster care in Newcastle, NSW. Since she is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to the Lower Hunter region (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock) plus Central Coast and Sydney. She’ll need to be returned to one of our approved vets for desexing when she's 5 to 6 months old.
