About Ziggy
OUR BEAUTIFUL ZIGGY HAS 5 DAYS TO FIND A NEW PLACE TO STAY AND THEN HE HAS NOWHERE TO GO. HE HAS BEEN IN KENNELS FOR NEARLY HALF HIS LIFE - HE DESPERATELY NEEDS YOUR HELP NOW!!
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Ziggy
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Rhodesian Ridgeback x
BREED TRAITS: Ridgebacks are smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary and can be aggressive towards animals outside the home. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
***************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, devoted, friendly, outgoing, confident, active, sweet and playful. He’s friendly with pretty much everyone he meets!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Ziggy loves to get out and about for runs and loves to play with other doggy friends. He can be a little territorial when new dogs come into his space but settles with slow introductions. He’s very devoted and adores cuddles and naps on the couch with his person.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s always happy and excited to see and be around you.
OTHER ANIMALS: Ziggy enjoys the company of other friendly female dogs after gentle introduction and loves to play with them. He loves to interact with female dogs but is untrusting with male dogs due to his early life being bullied by male dogs in his original home. He would need a slow introduction to male dogs. He has lived with a cat but does like to chase when he gets excited, so he would probably be best in a dog only home.
GENERAL INFO: Ziggy walks well on the lead and while being in kennels has learned some commands and has very good manners. He will bark when someone is at the door. When he was a younger pup in care he could be possessive over his food and toys with other dogs so his new owner will need to bear this in mind if there is another dog in the home - he is responsive to training and really wants to please. He is a very sweet boy with so much love to give and wonderful joy for life despite the difficult start he had as a young pup. Ziggy loves to be with his person and would be the most loving and loyal dog if given the chance.
MEDICAL NOTES: Ziggy suffered a fracture to one of his knees when he was a very young pup. This injury wasn't treated so he now has a knee that has limited movement. While he has been in care he has built good muscle tone which now allows him to use his leg without issue or pain. He is currently on daily 4Cyte supplements to support Ziggy's joints especially his hips and injured knee. As he ages, if his knee becomes painful, amputation may need to be considered - his injured knee is inoperable.
ESSENTIALS for Ziggy:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out.
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Ziggy needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Ziggy needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
** Ziggy would benefit greatly from continued training to keep exposing him to the outside world and grow his confidence in it.
Ziggy could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10 years of age who will treat him respectfully.
Ziggy has come on in leaps and bounds since coming into care with SAFE - he was not given a good start in life but has learned to be more open and trusting with other dogs. If an only dog, he would love to have regular interaction with a few doggy friends.
If Ziggy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
