About Chickadee
Introducing Chick (aka Chicadee), a courageous, resilient and affectionate dog who will melt your heart when you meet him. This boy is the quintessential rescued dog. He was born with a deformed leg in a northern community and was rescued and nurtured by a carer until he was old enough to travel to Cairns to have the surgery that was necessary to ensure he could live his best life. In late September he had his leg amputated and has adapted seamlessly to his new situation, including running, jumping and playing with ease. People who meet Chick invariably comment on how happy he is.
There are many things that Chick loves including all types of food, meeting new people and other dogs, playing (especially chasing a ball and tug o’ war), toys with squeakers, car rides, visiting the dog park, belly rubs and going on short walks.
Mr C is completely toilet trained, sleeps soundly all night and only barks if a stranger approaches the house but stops when told. He has learnt basic commands such as ‘sit’ and has excellent recall. As he is still young, his adopters will need to continue with his training but this is easy as he is intelligent, loves treats and is very keen to please his people.
Chick will make a wonderful companion or family dog. He is a dog who loves company and play so he is particularly suited to a home which has another dog who will engage in play and/or an adopter who is home more often than not. He has been fostered with a variety of dogs (and briefly with a cat) with no issues; he loves all dogs and people. He is not a dog to be put in the backyard alone for long periods of time and loves to be included in family activities. If you have any questions and would like to know more about this special boy, his foster mother would love to have a chat about him.
To ensure a reply to enquiries about adoption, please tell us a little about yourself and your location. Interstate adoption is available with transportation at adopter’s expense although preference will be given to local adopters because of his special requirements.
If you are renting your home, please ensure you have approval for a pet before submitting your application.
