Puppy classes/training/socialisation
Meet Beetle,
Beetle is a sweet & gentle pup who is best suited in a quiet home with an experienced owner. Beetle is learning to play & interact with ACF staff, but we feel that he may have had a troubled start to his young life as he is reserved & can be wary of new people.
Once settled, Beetle can be affectionate and won't mind being picked up, carried, and cuddled just as long as you allow him time to decompress. He would be suitable for families with children over the age of 10.
Beetle would love a yard, with high secure fencing, so that he can play in it safely.
He dreams of a home with toys - lots of toys - although toys aren't his thing right now, we have no doubt that once he realises that he is loved & safe in a new home, his playful side will shine through! Beetle will also need daily exercise/walks to keep his body physically fit & his mind mentally fit. Treat/food puzzles are a great way to keep active puppy minds engaged, too!
Beetle is starting to explore the world around him & is growing each & every day - a part of his growth is his confidence development. It would be a wise move to invest in a crate & start crate training as it is not only a highly valuable tool to have but a great skill for any dog to learn and know. A crate will also provide Beetle with a safe place to retreat too when he feels overwhelmed.
Just like all puppies, he should be enrolled into one on one puppy training as soon as he is adopted. These classes & training will set Beetle up for life and will allow him to learn social skills & etiquette, as well as define his manners. He may only be young, but he is ready to learn! Beetle is learning how to 'sit' & is keen to learn more. These training classes will also assist Beetle's new owner as they can both learn new skills together.
For now, Beetle is best to be the only dog in the home. Beetle has met some dogs at the ACF, but he wasn't a fan. This is unusual for a puppy, but we think that his lack of confidence plays a part in his attitude towards other dogs. He may have had a bad experience in his previous home. Beetle prefers the company of people, but as his confidence grows he may be more willing to make dog friends in the future. Having said that, Beetle may prefer being the only dog in the home for the rest of his life too. As mentioned before, he should get one on one training with a professional so that he can learn valuable skills which will determine his sociability with other dogs.
Can you open your heart and home to a sweet & gentle puppy like Bug?

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
