About Kodiak
Meet Kodiak, a playful and loveable 4-month-old German Shepherd pup with a lot of personality—and some very big ears! Kodiak is full of energy and potential, and he’s looking for a family who’s ready to guide him through his puppyhood and beyond. As he grows into his large frame (and those giant ears!), Kodiak will need a family with experience handling working breeds who can provide clear, consistent direction and plenty of mental and physical stimulation.
My Ideal Home:
Kodiak is a big, bold boy with a heart of gold! He’s going to be a very large Shepherd, so his ideal home will need to be equipped to manage his size and energy. Koda is a family dog through and through, and he would thrive in an active home where he can be included in all the fun. A house with a yard where he can sniff, roam, and enjoy some outdoor time would be a dream come true, but he’s also content spending quality time indoors with his humans. Whether it’s chewing on bones, basking in the sun, or just hanging out with the family, Kodiak loves being surrounded by people and wants to be part of everything.
Kodiak is highly food motivated, which makes him a great candidate for continued training. His new family will need to stay committed to reinforcing good manners, socialisation, and basic obedience—think more than just "sit" and "stay," but the full suite of skills that will help him grow into a well-rounded adult dog. As he matures, Kodiak will need regular mental and physical stimulation, so he’ll do best with an active family that enjoys walks, park adventures, and training sessions.
Energy Level:
Kodiak is a ball of energy! He loves long walks, playtime, and adventures to the beach (where he’s starting to embrace the idea of accidental swims). He’ll need daily exercise to stay happy, healthy, and out of trouble. However, after a good play session, Kodiak also enjoys his down time and is quick to settle in his crate for a nap. As a growing Shepherd, his energy level will remain high, so an active family that can offer more than just the occasional walk will be ideal.
Suitability to Children:
Kodiack would do best in a home with older kids—preferably 12 years or older—who understand puppy energy and can engage with him appropriately. Given his exuberance and size as he grows, he may accidentally knock over a smaller child or get a little too excited. A family with dog-savvy children will help Kodiak continue to refine his social skills and ensure he learns how to interact gently.
Suitability to Other Pets:
While Kodiak is dog social and enjoys the company of other pups, he’s still learning appropriate social behaviours. He can be a bit too eager to greet every dog he sees, so he’ll need a family who can help him understand boundaries. He would likely do well with another confident mid-to-large sized dog who can match his playfulness, as long as introductions are done carefully. Kodiak is not suited to a home with cats, and he may need some time and space to decompress and relax after play sessions with other dogs.
About Me:
You might mistake Kodiak for a German Shepherd mix with a rabbit—his giant ears and big paws make him look like a goofy, loveable bundle of clumsiness (and he is!). But make no mistake, Kodiak is growing fast and will soon be a big, strong German Shepherd with the grace of an elephant. He is still learning the ropes of the world, but he’s a smart pup with tons of potential. He is highly motivated by food, so he’s eager to learn, and with the right guidance, he’ll grow into the well-behaved, confident companion we know he can be.
Kodiak’s Requirements:
- A home with experience handling working breeds and providing clear, consistent training.
- A family that can give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
- A home with no small children (12+ years old is ideal).
- A home with a yard would be a bonus, but he’s equally happy to hang out indoors with his family.
- A confident, medium to large-sized dog sibling would be a good fit, but he can also thrive as the only dog in the home if he gets plenty of socialisation and guidance.
Kodiak is looking for a committed family who is ready for the adventure of raising a large, energetic pup and guiding him into the amazing dog he’s going to become. If you’re looking for a loving, active, and eager-to-please companion, Kodiak just might be the perfect fit!
