Peanut is a lovely little boy but does need a particular home and people. While he's got a wonderful nature once he settles in to his environment, he will need a dog savvy owner and preferably a female who has previously owned Chihuahuas.

Peanut can be bossy and nippy until he understands you won't stand for any nonsense, so he needs an owner who will love him but not let Peanut get everything he wants and won't molly coddle him. He likes to sit on the lounge with his carer but because he has a tendency to resource guard from the other resident dog, his carer more has him sitting at her feet on his bed. At night Peanut sleeps next to his carer's bed but last couple of nights he has made his way up onto the bed next to his carer's feet. Peanut does not suit being crated at all. He will resource guard the crate and not let anyone approach. He has obviously had a bad experience being crated previously. Peanut also much prefers women to men and any male owners will need lots of patience to gain his trust. He's not suited to a home with children.

Peanut coexists well with the large dog he is living with as long as she’s not in his face, although we were told he had been dominant with previous owner's older dog, so he will probably do best with a placid, relaxed dog or in a single dog home. He also lives with the cat perfectly well.

He doesn’t like being left outside on his own and will whine and yap to come back in with his person. He loves going for his walks each day.

This little man is blossoming into a great fellow, but he does need an owner who is confident and gives him boundaries and set rules, and also let's him know his place in the pack. It is not unusual for a Chihuahua to try to assert themselves, especially when in a new place with new people and surroundings which makes tbem feel unsettled. If you have the patience and understanding to let Peanut settle in and to get him into your routine and rules, then you'll have a sweet companion.

Adoption fee includes vet check, vaccination, microchip (including transfer of ownership fee), flea and worm treatment and sterilisation.

ADOPTION NOTES
Our adoption process for the successful applicant includes a meet and greet, (including your own dog if applicable), a home check (or photos of your yard and fencing to be supplied to us if not local), and a two week trial period to ensure your chosen dog is the right fit for your home.

All adoption fees must be deposited into our SAFE Bunbury bank account in full before adoption trial starts (we cannot accept cash). The Adoption Agreement will be emailed to the selected applicant in advance of meeting your chosen dog.

After the adoption trial period has been completed we arrange transfer of ownership of the dog's microchip to the new owner, and email out the vet records.
