About Myrtle, Protea & Ajuga
Myrtle, Protea, and Ajuga are a delightful trio of male Mitchell's Hopping Mice -- a rare and special opportunity to adopt some of these charming native animals. These fascinating little guys will add an element of wonder to your home with their unique behaviours. They are closely bonded, often seen cuddling up together.
Myrtle, Protea, and Ajuga are incredibly active and a delight to watch as they bound around their enclosure with grace and agility. Set up a naturalistic enclosure and watch them explore! While these boys are tame and can be briefly handled, they are still wild animals that should be handled only when necessary to maintain their comfort and well-being. Luckily, they're incredibly photogenic and not shy if you're just observing them from outside of their enclosure.
These three would be suitable for a home with children provided that they are not permitted to handle them. If you have cat or dog family members, please put thought into how you will keep them safely away from the enclosure. They would be best suited to a family that is experienced with keeping small animals, and will require an exotics specialist vet (we advise this for all of our adoptable animals, but for these boys it's essential!).
If you think that you can provide a safe, enriching environment for these special boys for the rest of their lives (2-3 years), please send us an enquiry and we'll get back to you as soon as possible to give you the full rundown!
Myrtle, Protea, and Ajuga will be treated with a parasite preventative prior to adoption. There is no license required to keep them in Vic. They are captive born and cannot be released.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
Adoption details
All of our animals are seeking indoor only homes. We do not adopt out any animal to live alone (excluding entire male mice). If you do not have one or more compatible animals of the same species, you must adopt a bonded pair or group.
Once you apply to adopt, we'll talk with you about proper care of the animals you're looking to adopt, discuss any concerns you or we might have, and tell you more about our available animals. Using the application form on our website will ensure that you don't leave anything out.
Otherwise, please include as much detail as possible about your situation, other animals, experience with the species you're looking to adopt, and intended housing/diet when you apply. If there's a particular vet clinic you intend to use, please tell us the name (otherwise we can help you locate one that is knowledgable in small animals).
As part of the adoption process we require photos of a complete, suitable set up. We suggest contacting us prior to buying any cages or items for your new family members as many sold for small animals are not appropriate. We've also outlined our housing expectations on our social media, but don't be intimidated! We are here to help, not judge.
At the time of adoption, you'll be asked to pay an adoption fee and sign an adoption form. You'll receive an adoption packet including a detailed care guide for the species you've adopted, an adoption certificate, and any relevant veterinary records (proof of vaccination and sterilisation, microchip details, etc).
