Orchid is a sweet, shy and sensitive soul. Each week in foster care she sheds a layer of insecurity and shows more of her sublime temperament.
She loves to be fussed over and told she’s a good girl, reciprocating with gentle hand nibbles and cute whimpers to show her appreciation of your undivided attention.
Dog and cat friendly but most focused on her humans. She is not overly playful with dogs although seems to like shadowing fluffy ones. She does enjoy the occasional game of tug and will play chasey when her foster brother steals her favourite ball. Not your typical energetic Border Collie, she’s quite unfit at the moment and has a couple of kilos to lose, it seems she previously led a sedentary life.
She is great on a lead once the initial excitement has worn off and loves following her humans everywhere about the house…welcome to never going to the toilet alone again.
While the humans work full time, she has full access to the house via doggy door and snoozes on and off all day until they get home. She doesn’t like living outdoors and will stress if you lock her out. She sleeps beautifully in a crate at night without a peep.
Her most well known move is a flat on her back splay while sleeping. She also doesn’t mind singing the song of her ancestors when she hears sirens outside.
Being quite shy, Orchid takes longer to trust men and will simply stand back and watch instead of interact. She does not have a mean bone in her body.
She came into care quite itchy and was licking her paws excessively. This has decreased significantly and was likely a result of a poor diet and stress from being in a pound environment. She is quite a submissive dog so can be very licky with humans, something we are slowly working on reducing. She is also anxious on car trips resulting lots of panting.
Orchid would thrive in a calm home where she can be part of your activities, have an indoor lifestyle, daily walks and be doted on by her family.
Her luscious coat will require frequent brushing to keep it well maintained.
