About Twinkle
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Twinkle
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Beagle x
BREED TRAITS: - A Beagle is a small scent hound used for hunting hare and consequently can have a high prey drive. They are active, hardy, affectionate and also stubborn so training requires patience. They love to use their nose, are inquisitive, determined and food focused. Being pack dogs they generally get along well with other animals and humans. They need plenty of exercise - at least an hour a day - and can be destructive if unexercised or bored. Beagles can climb so require good high fencing to contain them.
*************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, obedient, confident and very sweet! She can be a little timid around new people, especially men, initially, but once she’s comfortable around you she’s an absolute darling.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Twinkle loves to get out and about for walks and car rides. She loves to be by your side wherever you are and will follow you around the house. She’s very affectionate and will happily snuggle up with you for a snooze.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She loves a cuddle! She’s always happy to see you and adores being the centre of your world.
OTHER ANIMALS: Twinkle can be a little dominant, or possibly fearful, around unknown dogs so would be best as the only dog in her new home – she has probably missed out on adequate socialising in the past. Introductions are best if taken slowly – Twinkle is currently being fostered with two senior Golden Retrievers who are chill and she has settled well with them. She won’t be suited to a home with cats or small pets as, due to her hunting instincts, she growls and chases.
GENERAL INFO: Twinkle walks well on the lead and is housetrained. She rarely barks and hates raised voices, loud noises and loud objects like lawnmowers. If scared she will try to escape and can clear very high fences - she may therefore have sensitivity to storms. She has an active mind so can be destructive when left alone for long periods. She would really suit a home where her person is there more often than not. Due to her background and being quite underweight when she came into care, she tries to get into food items, bins etc so care needs to be taken to keep food out of reach – when she learns that she will always have enough food this behaviour may diminish. She has a medium energy level and knows a couple of commands but would benefit from some ongoing training to occupy and focus her active mind.
ESSENTIALS for Twinkle:
** A loving home with someone who can be with her for a good part of the day or can take her with them when they go out.
** She will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve her in daily activities is essential for her as she loves to be right where you are.
** Twinkle needs a high fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore. If Twinkle is given enough exercise, mental stimulation and company of her favourite person, she won’t want to go anywhere else.
** Twinkle needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night. She feels the cold so needs a warm jumper and blanket when the temperature drops.
As Twinkle can initially be a little cautious around unknown people, and worried by loud noises, we recommend that she be adopted into an adult only home. We also recommend that Twinkle be the only pet in the home so that she can be the centre of your world.
If Twinkle sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
