About Baxter
Hi! I'm Baxter and I'm looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR BAXTER
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/KtVrGRYsGRsTihJK8
NOTE: You are unable to meet Baxter until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Baxter in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• Secure Fencing (no holes or gaps I can squeeze my little body through.)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• Lots of love and attention
• A quiet & mature family/household - this is what I am used too
• I (sometimes) enjoy the company of other dogs my own size but am NOT keen on bigger dogs
• I can be shy at first so I need a family who'll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• I have a high prey drive so I can't go to a home that already has cats, rabbits/guinea pigs or chickens/ducks as I will chase them
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
• I need to be the only dog at home, I get jealous and will pick fights. I am ok to socialize and be around other dogs when out & about on a walk, at the beach etc.
Things that I don't want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• No young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me.
• No other dogs - I don't mind passing them and saying hi when out and about but I do not have much tolerance for them
• Cats or small animals as I may find them fun to chase
My best features:
• Highly food motivated
• Gentle & placid
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans once i get to know you
• I know my basic doggie commands
• Social butterfly
• I walk well on lead for but having daily walks should help me improve my lead skills
Where I need to improve / Training required
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet
• I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue on with my socialization
• I appear to be quiet vocal at times when left alone - a family who has a lot of time for me, allow me indoors and leave me with lots of mental enrichment when home alone is recommended
• As I have not been allowed inside before I am not housetrained yet
• I appear to have issues with resource guarding when it comes to high value treats. I will need some training to help fix and to get rid of this behaviour. I will happily give you the treat I am guarding for something else. With commitment and time, we will be able to work on this together.
Extra things to know about Baxter.
• I have never been allowed inside before however I am hoping that my new family will allow me inside to make me feel included & part of the family.
• The first thing you need to know about me is that I have lived in the same house and never left before now. I had little to no life experience, so I'm very reluctant to meet new people or try new things. I will take commitment and time.
AN ADOPTION CAN'T BE APPROVED IF YOU HAVE CANNOT COME TO THE SHELTER TO MEET BAXTER IN PERSON.
