About Kevin
Hi! I'm Kevin and I'm looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR KEVIN
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/QxX4x65uRVbju9ud6
NOTE: You are unable to meet Kevin until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Kevin in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• A doggie playmate would be great, if not then lots of socialising with other dogs - I like both friendly male and female dogs and I am very playful
• A cat may be ok with a slow introduction.
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• Lots of love and attention
• A quiet & mature family/household - I am very under socialised and timid.
• No young children as I am easily frightened/spooked older children who will be involved with my training should be ok.
• I will be shy at first so I need a family who'll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• Being an active breed I have a lot of energy so an active family is a must!
• Doggy daycare and group socialisation classes would be highly beneficial for me.
• I appeared scared of cats when meeting them at the shelter however once my confidence around them grows I might be more inquisitive. If going to a home with a cat they must be dog savvy and we must be introduced slowly.
• I LOVE other dogs but I'm a very energetic and playful dog, so I need a doggy playmate who will match my energy levels and playfulness.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
Things that I don't want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• No young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok
My best features:
• Very playful (once comfortable)
• Highly food motivated
• Gentle & placid
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• I know my basic doggie commands
• Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs
• Social butterfly
• I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches
• Well mannered
• Love to snooze on the couch
• I walk well on lead for a young doggo but having daily walks should help me improve my lead skills
Where I need to improve / Training required
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet
• I love my food & toys so using them as a positive reward should make my training easier.
• I am extremely timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. I MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so I can see it isn't a scary place and to allow my confidence to grow.
• I've only just learnt to walk on the lead since being at the shelter so I'm still a bit erratic but lots of walks will help me learn how to be great on the lead.
• I can sometimes initially be shy and try to avoid things going over my head (lead etc). It doesn't take long for me warm up and my excitable & full of life nature to come out.
• As I have not been allowed inside before I am not housetrained yet
• I need a nice quiet home with no young children (under 12 years), so I can take whatever time I need to get used to my new home and learn that I'm safe and loved
