About Morton
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Morton
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Kelpie x
Breed Traits: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong, they may try to herd your children.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: A little shy initially, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, laidback, active, sweet, obedient and playful. He’s a gorgeous boy who loves cuddles!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Morton loves to play chasey and tug of war with his sister and his people. He has typical puppy energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his person for a snuggle and snooze before waking up and doing it all over again! He loves to walk around the property and have lots of fun on the way.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Morton is a very cuddly boy who is eager to learn new things.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he gets on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. He could possibly live with a dog-savvy, confident cat that will stand its ground, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Morton will need training for pretty much everything being so young, but he picks things up very easily. Now that he is in a routine he is housetrained but expect accidents while he’s settling into his new home and routine! He will bark to get attention but is otherwise pretty chill. If he’s bored, he will dig in the garden, but as with all pups giving him the exercise and stimulation he needs is the key. He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs, and training is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized but as we don’t know who dad is, there is no guarantee.
ESSENTIALS for Morton:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption.
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
** Morton will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy at times as an adult dog.
** Morton could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age, depending on experience, who will play and interact with him but know when to give him space.
If Morton sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
