About Bruno
HOUSEHOLD- This striking young man is Bruno, a Johnstons Bulldog with partial heterochromia. He is young and slightly nervous of many things in the big wide world but is very affectionate and loving to those he knows. He will suit a variety of different lifestyles as long as his new owners have the time and patience to put towards him. He would thrive if included in family activities, possibly living indoors and out with adults and children aged 8yrs and above due to his slightly nervous nature and boisterous movements when excited. If you have younger dog confident children please explain further for us in your adoption application.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Bruno can sit on command and shows a keen interest in interacting and engaging with a handler when not distracted. He is very easily distracted in the facility and we feel that he will shine more in a calmer home environment. He is food motivated as well as praise and affection motivated which allows his new owners many training options.
ON LEAD- Bruno is still learning his lead manners. He can be quite strong when he sees something that he finds exciting or terrifying but, he can also walk quite well when everything is calm and quite.
PLAY/TOYS- Bruno is shy with toys in the facility, the fast movement appears to scare him and he needs comfort from a handler to recover quickly. He will need time to show his true play style once he is home but does love to interact and get pats and cuddles with anyone who will offer it.
OTHER DOGS- Bruno has shown himself to be dog social but requires positive dog experiences with canine friends who have good social manners so that he can continue to learn and further improve his own skills. He could be rehomed with another dog companion but we do need to do a meet and greet first to make sure that they get along well. He can be abit abrupt with his movements and finds other dogs fast movements super stimulating so a tolerant, playful companion could be best. He is not yet ready for dog parks and beaches due to his excitement and we would recommend postponing any visits to these locations till around 3mths post adoption until he has had time to settle in, feel comfortable with his recall commands and bond with his new family.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Bruno was very unsure when meeting the cats in the facility. He definitely preferred to raid their food bowl instead of interact with them. He could possibly be rehomed with a feline companion but each animal would require an option for its own space just to take a break when needed.
CARE/GROOMING- Bruno has a nice short easy to maintain coat. He will require weekly brushing, monthly bathing and a monthly nail clip to keep him looking good. He can get some tear staining so regular checks and wipes of his eyes and skin folds to prevent any moisture or irritations becoming an issue will be needed.
NUTRITION/EXERCISE- Bruno is an energetic boy and will require 1-2 walks daily along with a game or two in the backyard to keep him both mentally and physically stimulated. Bruno does have a dietary sensitivity that will need to be discussed further at his time of adoption. His new owners will need to maintain this diet in order to keep him happy and healthy.
