About Hector
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Hector
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender with his 4 siblings.
BREED: Kelpie x (father unknown)
Breed Traits: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults, children and other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Confident, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, active, sweet and playful. He’s a gorgeous boy who loves treats and cuddles!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Hector loves to play chasey and tug of war with his foster friends. He also adores being near his people and will happily lay on the couch with you. He has typical puppy energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his person for a snuggle and snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Hector is a very cuddly boy who is bright and eager to learn new things.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a pup, he will get on well with other friendly dogs and at present shares his foster home in harmony with two resident adult dogs. He is also living with some resident cats and has no issue with them. Sometimes a pup will want to chase and play but he means no harm and as long as they can stand their ground and let him know who is boss, living with a cat in his new home should be fine after sensitive introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Hector is doing great with his training and picks up new things very easily. He is fully housetrained and crate trained. As a typical pup he may like to dig in the garden and chew things if left alone too long and is bored but otherwise he enjoys his toys and interaction with the other dogs. His training is coming on in leaps and bounds but he will benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized but as we don’t know the dad there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Hector:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
**good daily exercise, playtime and training
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Hector will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium to high energy as an adult dog.
Hector could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age, who will play and interact with him but know when to give him space.
If Hector sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
