About Derek
Meet Derek, a charming 9-year old feline with a striking white and black medium coat that perfectly complements his spunky personality. Derek is an affectionate and loving cat, making him an ideal companion as an only pet, especially since he's not a fan of sharing space with other cats. His favorite pastimes include cozy cuddles and sneaking onto your pillow at night or claiming your spot on the couch during the day.
Derek is perfect for a home with older kids, as he prefers to keep all four paws on the ground, enjoying calm and gentle affection. One of his soft spots? A good chin rub-he absolutely melts for it!
Adopting a senior cat like Derek comes with many perks. Senior cats are typically calmer, with more predictable personalities, and their needs are clearer. They're also often well-mannered, having outgrown the rambunctious kitten phase. Derek, with his gentle nature, is the perfect example of why senior cats can make such wonderful companions-he's ready to fill your home with love and warmth without the high-energy demands of a younger cat.
If you're looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who will shower you with affection and steal your heart (and maybe your pillow), Derek is your guy!
To book a meet and greet with Derek please phone 5441-2209 or email barcreception@bendigo.vic.gov.au . Due to the high volume of emails received, enquiries with a request for a specific appointment with phone details included will receive a response as priority over generic applications which state they are interested in meeting an animal.

Adoption details
BARC adoption officers will work with you to help you find a dog or cat that matches your needs, they will discuss things like yard fencing, exercise requirements, other pets and family members, lifestyle factors, and breed experience. To help make this as quick and easy as possible, we ask you complete and adoption questionnaire (located on our website, or you can complete on when you visit). This helps ensure that we are introducing you to the most suitable animals we have available.
We encourage all members of the household to attend a meet and greet with a pet prior to adopting an animal. If the animal being adopted is a dog, we will also require existing dogs in the household to attend the shelter as part of the meet and greet.
Holds can not be placed on animals over the phone, and can only be applied at the discretion of management.
