Meet Volturno, a gentle, clever and cuddly three-year-old blue heeler who loves playing ball and snuggling up for pats and belly scratches.
In an alternate world, Volturno would be playing as a soccer goalkeeper for Australia’s dog team right now, but in the interim he would love to show you his ball skills and would adore some kids to kick the ball to him to fetch after school! He can jump and catch, do air spins and will go to great lengths to get that ball; impressing anyone watching.
He is gentle with humans and will approach with a wagging tail for pats. He
has been great with our 5-year-old; is generally uninterested in kids if his preferred adult is around. Will just roll over submissively for pats and happily lie side by side with humans and kids. Just don’t get in his way when he is going for his ball! He will happily sleep all night on his bed on the floor beside you or in another room (Or in your bed if you're up for a cuddle!)
He is a focused and ready learner who shows great motivation to learn further skills. He sits and waits when needed and would benefit from further recall training for off-leash plays. We are very confident that with training, Volturno will show you he can achieve almost any skill or trick. He walks well on lead already with and without his halti. As he is already a teenager, he is calm and relatively well-mannered but still has the playfulness and energy of a pup when he is ready for a play or walk.
He has been submissive with all other dogs he has met, but quickly warms up for a play when he realises they are friends too. He is untested with small dogs at this point. He is toilet trained but has had some accidents at our foster home which we believe is due to the unfamiliar environment and marking behaviours. Now that he has been desexed, these behaviours have nearly gone. He isn’t really a barking dog but has shown some barking in the yard when separated from his humans. We think a home with another companion dog or a family who work from home a few days a week would be a good fit for Volturno; especially with primary or high school aged kids. He hasn’t shown any signs of digging or wanting to jump our metre high fence.
We know that you will adore Volturno, he is such a gorgeous boy!
