About Kirby
Are you the kind of person who loves a fun, intelligent companion with a sensitive side? If so, Kirby might be exactly who you’ve been looking for!
Kirby’s a clever little guy who loves to show off his impressive tricks – especially when there’s a treat involved (he’s got a real soft spot for a cheeky slice of cheese!). You’ll laugh as he tries to do all his tricks at once, eager to make you proud. Walks are his favourite, and his tail will wag with pure joy as you head out the door.
But Kirby’s not just all fun and games – he’s got a gentle, sensitive heart that needs the right environment to thrive. He’d be happiest in a calm, quiet home with adults or older, sensible kids who understand terriers like him.
Kirby’s completely fine on walks and isn’t disturbed by general sounds, but he does have a few sound sensitivities. Thunderstorms and that pesky iPhone notification ding are two that spark discomfort, and he sometimes associates this with the TV. A peaceful home and a patient guardian will help him feel more at ease, building his confidence at his own pace.
Kirby prefers a bit of space when it comes to affection, and he’s not a fan of being pulled up for pats. He’ll let you know when he’s ready for some love by nuzzling into you, and gently asking for a chin scratch. He enjoys being near his people but doesn’t need to be on top of you – he’s more about that quiet, steady companionship.
Kirby’s a real homebody and doesn’t necessarily need an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. While he enjoys using a doggy door to explore the yard, he feels most secure inside. A flat or home with someone around most of the time would be ideal, as he’s happiest when his people are close by. If left outside for too long, he’ll enthusiastically let you know—especially if a possum or cat catches his attention!
When Kirby’s feeling a bit overwhelmed, he sometimes finds comfort in picking up something to chew on. It’s his way of self-soothing, and he’ll appreciate a gentle approach when you help him find his sense of ease. With understanding and a bit of training, these moments can become less frequent.
Kirby’s enthusiasm can sometimes overflow in bustling places like the vet or pet shop, especially when he spots a cat. He might let out a charming, excited panting noise when he's a bit overwhelmed. With a calm environment and some gentle reassurance, he quickly settles down and shows his delightful personality.
Kirby is looking for people who will help him feel secure, encourage his playful side, and understand that love sometimes means giving him space. If that sounds like you, Kirby can’t wait to meet his new best mate!
To get things started on the right paw, Kirby's adoption fee also includes a training session with Kirby's Behaviour Veterinarian. This consultation will provide you with expert guidance to help Kirby transition into his new home and ensure a happy and harmonious life together.
Enquirers will also have the opportunity to learn more about Kirby's wonderful personality and ask any questions they may have during a pre-adoption tele-consult with our Program Behaviour Specialist.
Medical notes
As a sensitive soul, Kirby currently receives Clomav medication to help him live a relaxed and happy life. The medication is easily mixed into his wet food or given with a tasty treat.

Adoption details
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s guardian—the person who knows them best!
From here, the guardian will be in touch to learn more about you and chat with you about their pet. It’s a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
If your home and lifestyle match the pet's needs, the next step will be arranging a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone is happy to proceed with a formal adoption.
Following the adoption, change of ownership paperwork will be completed, and proof of vaccination, microchipping, and desexing (if applicable, as indicated on the listing) will be provided.
All pets adopted through Home2Home will require an adoption contract to be signed and an adoption fee to be paid. The pet’s guardian will complete the adoption contract with you and provide a link to PetRescue’s secure payment portal for completing the adoption fee payment.
