About Polly Pocket
Requirements:
Experienced owners
Must meet all family members
Kids (any age) - dog savvy
Best as only dog - for now - lacks confidence
Meet Polly Pocket,
About: Polly Pocket is one of our smallest dogs at the ACF. She is a gentle, shy girl who is best suited to experienced owners. She is quite a submissive dog, tending to lay down if she is feeling overwhelmed. She likes to stay close to be-friended humans so that she feels safe. She will need an understanding owner to help her thrive.
Despite her timid nature, Polly is also friendly, social, and quite a sweetheart who loves people.
Polly is best suited to a calm & quiet home as she is sensitive to noise.
Ideal Home: Due to her petite size, Polly is fine to live in in any property type/dwelling, yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Access to inside the home would be ideal so that little Polly can be close to her new family. She may even sneak onto the couch for cuddles (if her little legs allow her to get up there!)
Family: Polly is also open to meet kids of any age as long as they are respectful & dog savvy. Reason for this is that Polly is a tad shy, timid & sensitive.
Polly is fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Initially, Polly Pocket was considered best as the only dog in a home due to her lack of confidence. However, she is now open to meet/dog selective, as we've seen how positively she responds to meeting other dogs. Polly thrives on dog interaction and gains confidence from being around them. During her initial dog assessment, her lack of confidence was evident, but she has come a long way and shows great potential to live with another dog. She’s shown real interest in meeting and interacting with them, and although she can still have moments of uncertainty, she’s happiest when in the company of another dog. Polly had a positive experience during a recent interaction, where she displayed a submissive but friendly demeanour.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Polly Pocket would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Polly would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience as well as group classes to assist with her socialisation & confidence with other dogs. We recommend that she do group classes once she has settled into her new home & is comfortable.
Polly is still learning her name, but she knows how to ‘sit’ & is learning more as she continues to grow in our care.
Polly is food motivated, so having treats on hand to reward her during training sessions would a fab idea. Polly always takes treats gently, too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Polly has low-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins, 2-3 times a week day to keep her happy.
Polly walks well on a lead but may stop on occasion if she is uncertain about where she is headed. A gentle reminded that she is ok is enough for her to continue on her journey. She is fine to be walked on a lead & collar.
Polly doesn’t appear to enjoy toys too much (yet) she prefers personal play & human interaction.
Staff Comments: Polly Pocket is a super sweet & gentle girl, a bit sensitive, but is happy & affectionate once she is comfortable being around you.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
