About Bigboy
Are you Bigboy's forever person? Even if you only think you might be, please reach out. He is such a great dog, and he deserves a great home. Unfortunately, it cannot be mine.
With a big smile, big bounces and an even bigger heart, this is Bigboy. He is such a joyful, happy dog. He’s so smart and funny and curious. Bigboy loves running off lead when he can, exploring by the river and going for walks. He also doesn’t mind a quiet night in front of the heater, Netflix and chill under a blanket with you on the couch.
Bigboy has been in foster care for over a year. He really needs to find his proper forever home - Due to his past experience, Bigboy needs to be an only dog as he will resource guard food and toys.
Bigboy spent his first three years, neglected in a backyard with another dog. He was never walked, they were living with no bedding or shelter, covered in fleas. Not being fed regularly, meant fighting for food, and interactions with his owner became a tussle for attention. Even though he no longer goes hungry, cold or alone, after fighting for the basics for so long, it’s been hard for him to change his ways.
In the last 12 months, Bigboy’s world has opened up enormously. He was so scared and confused when he was first rescued. It’s been astounding watching Bigboy come out of his shell over the past 9 months or so. He is such a joyful, happy dog. He is so smart, funny and curious. Bigboy loves a walk, going to the river and runs off lead. He also doesn’t mind a quiet night in front of the heater, Netflix and chill on the couch. Once he realises it’s bedtime, he will jump on the bed and snuggle in under the blankets if you let him. He’s great for keeping your feet warm in winter. Bigboy is a bit of a parkour puppy. He loves to get up on top of everything and can bound over things with ease. If he is in a rush, his first impulse is to go over a coffee table rather than around it. If the person he is excited to see is on the other side of a couch, he WILL leap straight over it to say hello. The delight he can bring to a home he is in just by being so happy with life is unfathomable. There have been many tears shed over this decision to find him a new home.
Unfortunately it has become clear resource guarding is an ongoing issue for Bigboy. Even though he has made so much progress, in a multi-dog house food is an added stress that Bigboy simply does not need. He is great with most toys, but he will defend his beloved Bunny from other dogs. He also has a tendency to resource guard his favourite person. Bigboy has never shown any of this guarding behaviour towards people, only dogs. He plays well with other dogs and it would be good for him to have a couple of dog mates that he knows to catch up with from time to time. Unfortunately, living with other dogs will most likely always prove to be stressful for Bigboy.
Bigboy has been living with older children, (10 & 12) he does not have any experience with younger children and it would not be recommended he go to a home with any. He enjoys chasing cats, but is also pretty good with them if the cats are chilled out and give him a chance to say hi rather than running away. Probably best to avoid other small animals around the home if you’re not going to manage Bigboy’s interactions with them.
Bigboy deserves to be welcomed into a loving, understanding home with wide open arms. He has so much love and loyalty to give the right people or person, but he will need time and space to adjust. He is in a much better position to be able to do that now. Once he does, he will be yours for life!
So, if you want a dog to keep you company and fill your quiet days with joy, who will follow you to the ends of the earth, make sure to apply for Bigboy.
If you’ve read to the end, and you’re still interested in meeting this fuzzy little pocket rocket of awesomeness…. Bigboy would love to hear from you!! :)
