Meet Sparx,
About: Sparx is a little shy, social & gentle. She is also agreeable, friendly & once comfy becomes a very happy & excited girl, so she is suitable for first time owners.
Although initially shy, she has a curious nature about her which makes her outgoing - Sparx is eager to explore, but also errs on the side of caution around new, novel things. Sparx is also affectionate & loves to curl up on your lap.
Sparx is best to live in a calm & quiet home as she is sensitive to loud noises & big movements.
Ideal Home: Due to her small size, Sparx is fine to live in any property type/dwelling and yard size is of no concern either. Just as long as the fencing is secure.
Access to inside the home would be ideal so that Sparx can feel like part of the family.
Family: Sparx is open to meet kids of any age, while she may be shy she is eager to interact and is quite resilient if she does get a little scared. Kids should be mindful of her small size & her nervousness.
Sparx is fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Sparx previously lived with another dog & appears to be dog social but may be better off being the only dog in the home, at least for now. She is better around dogs her own size, who are less boisterous and playful, larger dogs tend to startle her but she does have the ability to recover, their size is too much for her. She is the type of dog to happily co-exist but until her confidence is built up she will shy away. During her dog assessment she was keen to make friends and really wanted to interact, but her curiosity clashed with her lack of confidence. We feel that when she is settled into a home & with more exposure to dogs of her own size she will be able to make friends in to time.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Sparx would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Sparx would benefit from post-adoption training, such s training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes so that she can meet dog friends in a controlled & safe environment & gain exposure to larger dogs.
With more training Sparx could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Sparx is still learning her name, but she doesn't really know any commands. Although she is semi-food motivated, her treat of choice is still a mystery. never-the-less you should have treats on you during these training sessions anyway, she may surprise you by taking one.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Sparx has low-range energy levels & would benefit from walks around 20-30mins every 2-3 days to keep her happy. A walk will be enough as she isn't too keen to play with toys.
Sparx walks well on a lead but is still learning. She will be best walked on a harness. She tends to walk, then stop to scope out the area, before continuing on.
Staff Comments: Sparx has moments of timidity but her capacity to recover is great. She has come out of her shell a lot & will go far with a kind, caring, patient & understanding owner in a quiet home environment.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
