About Spyro
Requirements:
Experienced owners
Must meet all family members
Kids (10yrs+)
Best as only dog - nervous
Calm & quiet home
Meet Spyro,
About: Spyro is a nervous little guy, who is gentle, shy & a little anxious. He is best suited to experienced owners. Despite this, Spyro is also agreeable, friendly & curious but he is on alert.
Spyro will shake in new areas and when he is around new people - but he does have the capacity to recover & once he feels more confident he will start to explore on his own, often checking in with you to make sure everything is fine.
Spyro is best to live in a calm & quiet home as he is sensitive to loud noises & big movements.
Ideal Home: Due to his small size, Spyro is fine to live in any property type/dwelling and yard size is of no concern either. Just as long as the fencing is secure.
Access to inside the home would be ideal so that Spyro can feel safe & secure inside, with his new family.
Family: Spyro is fine to meet kids from 10 years & up. Reason for this is due to his timidity.
Spyro is fine to live with people who work part-time hours, or someone who is home a lot.
Furry Friends: Spyro is best to be the only dog in the home, he previously lived with another dog, but his nervous nature makes him very unsure of other dogs. He doesn't have the confidence for us to be happy with him living in a home with another dog. Once he is in his new home and settled he may have the confidence to make friends, but he may also enjoy being the only dog in the home.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Spyro would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Spyro would benefit from post-adoption training, such s training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
With more training, and more confidence Spyro could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Spyro is still learning his name, but he doesn't really know any commands. Spyro isn't very food motivated, but if he does that them he does take them gently from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Spyro has low-range energy levels & would benefit from walks around 20-30mins every 2-3 days to keep him happy. A walk will be enough as he isn't too keen to play with toys.
Spyro walks well on a lead but is still learning. He is best walked on a harness. Spyro tends to walk, then stop to scope out the area, before continuing on.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
