About Drax
Drax is a great big cuddlebug who is pretty sure he’s just a little lapdog. He is sweet, playful, funny, gentle and pretty calm for a young dog. He wants all of the cuddles, is fantastic with people and other dogs, loves exploring and his morning zoomies are a sight to behold!
Our beautiful Boy is a stunning lanky Irish Wolfhound x weighing in at just 32 kilos of shaggy lovable joy and a soft gentle temperament who will make a wonderful family addition to many household types
Drax looooves cuddles and attention and will take as much of it as he can get. Cuddling on the couch is one of his favourite things and he will happily drape himself over his favourite person. He loves going for a walk and exploring the outside world, as well as playing with chew toys and having a snooze on the couch once he’s finished playing.
Drax has never met a person he didn’t love. He greets people with confidence, but doesn’t tend to jump on them. He is gentle with children. He has been to cafes, Bunnings, pet shops and cricket training and behaved beautifully everywhere, happily greeting strangers and being calm around unfamiliar dogs. He loves a good play wrestling with his people but needs to understand that he can’t be too rough.
Drax is super smart and has quickly picked up basic commands such as sit, drop, stay, follow. His recall is coming along and with his eagerness to please, he will pick up other commands quickly. Although he needs some encouragement to get into the car, he travels happily and calmly.
Drax has been living with two older dogs in foster care. He absolutely loves them and takes correction readily when he gets a bit too boisterous for them. He hasn’t been tested with cats. Being a hound breed , he does try to take off after moving rabbits, kangaroos and birds when on lead, so you need to be aware and hang on tight. He does come away readily when told, however. He barks occasionally but not for long. He has learnt to wait patiently for the other dogs to be given their food before he is given his.
Drax has been eating pet mince, vegetables and Royal Canin dry food while in foster care. He happily eats what he is given.
Drax is happy to enjoy a chew toy, treat toy or pig ear when left on his own, or just have a good old snooze in a patch of sunlight.
Drax doesn’t seem to like water and was not keen on having a bath at first, but calmed down once he accepted that there wasn’t a choice. He didn’t mind the dryer and did enjoy a good rub with the towel. He doesn’t enjoy a brush, but would get used to this in time.
Drax has been sleeping on the couch, but will make himself comfortable wherever there is a nice soft, warm spot.
Drax is always up for a walk, and walks well on lead, happy to stay beside you. He loves a good sniff around and a roll in the grass. He even keeps looking back to check the slower dog is still following, which is sweet. He has been getting a couple of short walks per day as well as a longer one most days, after which he is happy to settle down for a rest.
Drax is toilet trained. He’s still very much a puppy and does need to continue working on his manners and understanding boundaries. I won’t lie, Drax is a thief. He likes to remind you to keep the house tidy by relocating items you leave lying around. He will also steal things out of the pantry, wardrobe, sink or off the bench if he gets the chance. He particularly enjoys slippers, shoes, socks, clothing, electrical cords and wooden spoons. He will happily trade for a toy, however. He needs plenty of chews, treats and puzzle toys to keep his clever brain occupied and keep him from chewing things you don’t want him to.
Drax would fit in well in a home with another big playful female l dog, and would love to have some older kids to play with, or kids that he sees regularly. He will need a decent sized yard that can accommodate his regular attacks of the zoomies,. . He does like lots of exercise, which also helps to keep him relaxed , so would love to live with an active family who will include him in all of their adventures. He would also make a great running buddy.
