Meet Yoda,
About: Yoda is a nervous and slightly anxious little guy who is best suited to an experienced owner. Yoda may come across as a little reserved, some say aloof, when you first meet him. But deep down he is a friendly & affectionate boy ready to find his new family.
Yoda is best suited to a calm & quiet home, as he is sensitive to loud noises & BIG movements.
Ideal Home: As Yoda is smaller, he would be able to live in any property type/dwelling, and yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the property has high secure fencing.
Yoda loves being around people & feels most comfortable being inside with you. So, Yoda would love to be mostly indoors with outdoor access so he can free roam between both.
Family: Yoda is a happy boy & is open to meet kids from 6-8 years of age. Reason for this is because despite being happy, a bit of a class clown, he is still a little nervous. So kids should be a little older & at an age that can understand his behaviour& help him grow confidence & blossom into the best version of himself.
Yoda is fine to live with people who work part-time hours.
Furry Friends: Yoda is open to meet other dogs, but he should be matched with dogs who share the same high energy traits. Yoda also needs to learn social etiquette & some manners. During his dog assessment Yoda was a little unsure at first but after a beat he loosened up & wanted to play. Staff noted that he was a *little* hyper during the assessment but he was also able to break away, do his own thing, then come back for more play. He is very keen to make friends, offering play bows, but his manners & overall demeanour may be a little too much for some dogs. His new owners should work on this before allowing him to freely interact with other dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Yoda would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Yoda would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience & group classes so he can learn social skills & manners when around other dogs. With additional training, Yoda could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café, or social event, but his excited about *everything* will need to be considered & controlled first.
Yoda knows his name, and he also knows commands such as 'sit'. Yoda is also gentle when taking treats, but is not particularly food motivated. Yoda may jump up for attention also.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Yoda is an excitable fellow and has high-range energy levels & is a bit of a pocket-rocket. He would benefit from walking, play or exercise from 20-60mins per day to keep him happy & stimulated. Yoda is also playful, he likes small, plush toys.
Walking is a work-in-progress for Yoda, according to his previous owners they did not, or rarely walked him, so he is learning this. He is best walked on a harness & lead. While he does pull sometimes, his small size makes it easy for his new owners to manage, but walking should be incorporated in his training regime.
Staff Comments: Yoda is a wonderful dog. He just needs some time, a committed owner & an understanding owner. People should consider Yoda's needs & look past his small size & sweet face, just because he is small does not mean that it will be a walk in the park. Yoda has grown in confidence since coming into our care & we are positive that in a routine focused environment, he will continue to grow & flourish.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
