About Biggie
💙 BIGGIE 💙
HOUSEHOLD- This big hunk of spunk is Biggie! A playful giant who is looking for an owner who has had previous large breed dog experience. He is still a growing pup and due to his size and playful nature he will be best rehomed with any children being 10yrs or over because he does not know his own size and may knock them over accidently. He appears comfortable out in the big wide world and would like to find a loving home sooner rather than later because he does not thrive in the kennel environment.
ON-GOING TRAINING- He has previously had some time and effort put into him because he can Sit, Shake (both paws), Drop, Crawl and even Roll Over already. He loves his food treats and is easily motivated but can become slobbery as he gets the treats in his mouth.
ON LEAD- Overall, Biggie shows signs of previous lead training and can walk quite well in a calm low distraction environment. When he is excited he can become very strong, pulling towards smells or objects that he wants. He will need further training in this area and we have tried him on a Head Halti which can aid in minimising pulling and he has taken to it well. This may not be required in the future but can be a great tool at the start.
PLAY/TOYS- Biggie is a big playful boy who seems to enjoy squeaky toys and rough/tumble play with a handler. He is surprisingly gentle when rumbling and loves a good belly rub! He is perfectly happy to chase, roll on the ground and just be silly in general with his handler and resettles quickly when this game is stopped or started.
OTHER DOGS- Biggie has shown himself to be dog social but requires positive dog experiences with canine friends who have good social manners so that he can remain social as he continues to grow. He could be rehomed with another dog companion but we do need to do a meet and greet first to make sure that they get along well. He does love to play and rumble and would best suit a playful companion.
While he has shown himself to be dog social at the facility we unfortunately cannot test for group dog settings such as a visit to the dog parks, beaches etc. If you were hoping to visit these places we would recommend postponing your trip till around 3mths post adoption until he has had time to settle in and feel comfortable with his recall commands and bond with his new family.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Biggie was abit timid and unsure of our cats in the facility and preferred to raid their food bowl instead of interact further. He could possibly be rehomed with a feline companion.
CARE/GROOMING- Biggie has a nice short easy to maintain coat that will require weekly brushing, monthly bathing and monthly nail clipping to keep looking good. He does require regular checks of his eyes and skin folds to prevent any moisture or irritations becoming an issue but is very good with his handling and has allowed all checks with ease thus far.
NUTRITION/EXERCISE- Biggie has energy to burn but due to his size he can tire out quite quickly so regular shorter sessions will be best. He will require 1-2 walks daily and a game or two in the backyard to keep him both mentally and physically stimulated. Biggie is still growing and will require a puppy diet to help maintain a good body condition. He is currently being fed 2-3 meals daily both wet and dry food options and has not yet shown any fussiness with what is being served. He also loves a variety of food treats and is more than happy to raid a pocket for them.
BREED- Neapolitan Mastiff DOB 25/3/2023
