About Buddy
Requirements:
Experienced owner
Must meet all family members
Kids (6yrs+)
Best as only dog - socialisation
Meet Buddy,
About: Buddy is best suited to experienced owners. Whilst Buddy is generally agreeable & easy-going, he is independent & has a slight stubborn streak about him. Overall though, Buddy is gentle, friendly & curious. He loves people and gets excited to make human friends. Buddy is an affectionate and sweet little guy who just wants to be your friend.
Buddy is best suited to a calm & quiet home as he is sensitive to loud noises & bold movements.
Ideal Home: Due to Buddy's small size he is suitable to live in any property type/dwelling, yard size doesn't matter either, as long as the yard has high, secure fencing. Buddy would love to have access to inside the home where possible, - he would make a friend inside or outside dog as he is a very quiet dog. Being inside will allow him to feel like part of the family.
Family: Buddy is open to meet kids, regardless of age, providing that they are dog savvy. Reason for our decision is not solely based off anything in particular that Buddy has done, it is more of an observation. Buddy is very intuitive with his emotions and when he is not comfortable he will freeze. Kids in the home should respectful.
Buddy is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Buddy is best to be the only dog in the home. During his dog assessment it was evident that Buddy was not socialised & may not have ever met another dog before. His reaction wasn't bad, but it was enough to let us know that he was not comfortable. We are going to work on Buddy to get him to a point where he can see a dog without feeling stressed. He did a lot of displacement behaviours which was his way of telling us that he wasn't feeling it. It's important to note that his behaviour is manageable.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Buddy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Buddy would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
Buddy is still learning his name, but he knows how to 'sit'. Whilst Buddy doesn't generally jump up, he will jump if he is hyped up!
Buddy is also food motivated, so having treats on hand would be a great tool to have during training sessions. Buddy is very gentle when taking treats from your hand too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Buddy has mid-range energy levels, and he would benefit from exercise, walking or playtime from 20-30mins per day to keep him happy, healthy & content. Buddy isn't too interested in toys. He prefers human interaction.
Buddy walks well on a lead with minimal pulling. He is best walked on a collar.
Staff Comments: Buddy is a sweet, little guy. He is very calm & chill in his kennel. He is a small boy with a big heart as he is quite affectionate.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
