About Arkie
If you are looking for a companion, a lapdog that will adore your attention and give you so much joy from his overwhelming cuteness, then keep reading. Introducing the sweetest most handsome boy Arkie, our sweet loving little black Mini Poodle who is looking for his forever home.
Arkie’s favorite things include attention from any human, pats, cuddles, walks and food.
Arkie has been in foster care with a family with children and another dog (Border Collie). Arkie absolutely loves a walk, he gets very excited when he sees the lead and will yip until he is confident he will be included. When Arkie isn’t on walking adventures, you will find him following his foster carers close by.
Arkie loves all kinds of dogs, he will excitedly say hello and greet everyone on his walks. Arkie hasn’t been exposed to cats in foster care so we aren’t sure about his interactions but feel based on his love of everything he would go ok with a dog savvy cat.
Arkie absolutely loves any human interaction, he adores children and is very very gentle. Arkie in fact doesn’t know what personal space is and just wants to be around people all the time, morning, noon and night. He doesn’t spend a lot of time on his own and just wants to be on your lap constantly. He is the definition of a “lap dog”!
Arkie’s recall is amazing, not that he will travel too far away from his foster carers. He sits on command for meals and is an absolute dream on the lead and easy to walk.
Arkie is completely toilet trained and will happily go outside for toileting. No accidents overnight or territory marking.
Hmmmm sleeping……remember the personal space talked about above?! Wellll….. this applies to bedtime too. Arkie will sleep on his foster carers bed, or when its called ask to sleep under the covers at your feet with not a single wriggle for the rest of the night, we suspect this was his routine before he came into our care and he definitely will need to go to a home where he can remain as a “ foot warmer” in his new home.
Independent isn't a word you would use to describe Arkie, if you’re looking for a pup that you can leave home for hours while at work etc, he wouldn’t be the right fit. He would be best suited to someone that maybe works from home, is retired or looking for a companion. Arkie is more of a dog who wants to be with his family as much as possible rather than at home all alone all day.
Arkie thoroughly enjoys his walks. Short regular walks keeps Arkie a happy little boy . Our little snuggly boy is very spritely for his age and can walk for miles. Arkie travels reasonably well in the car on the lap of a passenger, however otherwise would need to be in a carrier as he can become a bit jumpy around an unsettled. He has had short trips as well as some trips up to 2 hrs.
Arkie loves his food and is currently fed premium – Adult Poodle food. His favorite treat is chicken breast and will do a dance on his back legs if he sees that’s up for offer.
As mentioned above Arkie wants to always be around his human companions, he is very much an inside dog and pretty much only goes outside to the toilet or when his foster family needs a bit of personal space. We are looking for someone that will have Arkie as an inside dog.
Ideal home:
Home body either semi or retired, working from home, single looking for a companion. Someone that can enjoy Arkie’s little quirks as he is an older dog.
Medical
Arkie has been professionally groomed has had a full dental and a few teeth extractions is desexed and vaccinated
Adoption Criteria
A home where his people are home more often than not as Arkie is not huge on being alone for long periods
A home with a min of a nice little secure yard for toileting but he is definitely an inside dog all the way
Another dog in the home is fine as he adores all size dogs
A home with children is fine too as Arkie loves everyone and everything
A home who can take Arkie on a daily walk as this is one of his favorite things
A home that are financial enough to have him groomed every 8 weeks as a min
