Meet Dolce,
About: Dolce is a genuine gentle giant. He is agreeable & independent and is best suited for people who have experience owning dogs. Dolce is also best suited to a home that is calm & quiet as he too is calm & quiet & prefers a relaxed lifestyle of hustle & bustle.
Dolce is outgoing, friendly & confident and would be a great adventure buddy for people who spend a lot of time outdoors as he is confident too.
Ideal Home: Dolce is best suited to living in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Access to inside the home would be wonderful, so that Dolce can spend time with his new family & feel loved.
Family: Dolce is open to meet kids of any age. But children in the home should be mindful of his size. Dolce is not a jumper but he may accidentaly knock a child over. He's not aware of his size but his oblivious nature is what we love about him. In addition, Dolce is also very affectionate and would love to make friends with anyone he meets.
Dolce is fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Dolce is best to be the only dog in the home. During his dog assessment he made it clear to us that he is not wanting to make dog friends. This is likely due to lack of socialisation in his previous home as his critical socialisation period was missed when he was a puppy. We are working on his ability to be able to walk around other dogs without issue, though.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Dolce would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Dolce would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience.
Dolce knows his name and he also knows command such as 'sit', 'down' & 'shake'. Dolce is also food motivated, so having treats on you during training sessions will be a great idea! He also takes treats gently form your hand despite his size.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Dolce has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play or walks from 20-30mins per day to keep him happy & healthy. He shows some interest in toys but we a yet to find his favourite toy. He loves human interaction.
Dolce walks ok on a lead, but is strong & can pull sometimes. Some staff have noted that he never pulls, whilst others have witnessed him pulling, in saying that he is best walked on a martingale or a harness. Loose leash walking should be incorporated into his training.
Staff Comments: Dolce is a big bug and is very smart & affectionate. He is also toilet trained. He's can be a bit dopey sometimes, but we love this about him!

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
