About Charlie
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Charlie
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Beagle x
Breed Traits: A beagle is a small scent hound used for hunting hare. They are active, hardy, affectionate and also stubborn, so training requires patience. They love to use their nose, are inquisitive, determined and food focused. Being pack dogs they generally get along well with other animals and humans. They need plenty of exercise - at least an hour a day - and can be destructive if unexercised or bored. Beagles can climb so require good high fencing to contain them.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, outgoing, confident, active, sweet and playful. He’s a gorgeous boy who loves cuddles!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Charlie loves to play with his sibling and enjoys playing ‘tug’ with his toys. He has typical puppy energy where he plays for a while then settles down with his person for a snuggle and snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Charlie has big floppy ears and very sad eyes that make your heart melt!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. He could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Charlie will need training for pretty much everything being so young, but picks things up very easily. Housetraining is underway but he still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while he’s settling into his new home and routine! He will bark to get attention and likes to chew things as any puppy does. He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized or just under as mum is a Beagle x but there are no guarantees (dad is not known).
ESSENTIALS for Charlie:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption.
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Charlie will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium, and high energy at times as an adult dog. Beagles are high energy dogs and excellent companions for active people.
Charlie could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 to 8 years of age, depending on experience, who will play and interact with him but know when to give him space.
If Charlie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
