Buddy

Are you an adventurous, outdoorsy person who loves a smart dog with a good dose of personality and charm? Well, Buddy is an energetic, quirky, and incredibly loyal companion who's ready to be your new best mate.

Buddy’s loyalty is the stuff kelpie legends are made of. He wants nothing more in life than to be by the side of his favourite person, admiring the brilliance that is a human who can speak dog while getting out and about moving his body and seeing the world. His recall and obedience are top-notch, making him a dream to work with — unless he spots a horse, then he temporarily forgets himself and he’s off to stir up some equine-centric trouble!

Buddy’s love for a good zoomie session or running laps around the yard shows off his playful side, and you’ll never get tired of his dopey grin when he’s having the time of his life. He's thought about turning his paw towards herding sheep and has shown some promise there, but is a bit soft for cattle, so if you have a flock, he might be the one to lend a helping paw.

Buddy thrives on being around his people and although he can be a bit shy when meeting new faces, once he warms up, he won’t knock back a cuddle from anyone. We think he would make an excellent team mascot for a sports club or Sunday visitor at the local nursing home.

He's great with other dogs and like a typical herding dog has a preference for high-speed, high-energy chase games with his friends. His soft streak also extends to other dogs and he has great doggy manners, so does exceptionally well with soft, gentle dogs (especially girls!) and will avoid rough and tumble play if given the option!

Buddy is currently sharing his home with a confident big country cat who rules with an iron paw and a gentle, shy kitty who finds him a bit too much. With the right introduction and supervision, he can learn to coexist with a confident feline who will show him who is boss if he forgets himself and thinks chasing might be a bit of fun. No pocket pets or free-range chooks for this fellow though - that’s all a bit too much temptation!

Travelling with Buddy is a breeze—he’s calm and quiet in the car but if he’s on the ute, he can’t resist snapping at the passing traffic, as if he’s catching invisible flies. And while he’s not much of a barker, he’ll let you know if a stranger’s approaching your property, but if he recognises them, he’s all smiles and tail wags.

Buddy's a dog who thrives on attention and rewards. His new person should be someone who can offer him consistent, gentle training and plenty of opportunities to burn off his energy. A secure yard is a must and he thrives being an inside-outside dog who sleeps inside with his family at night.
