About Simba
💙 Home For Simba 💙
HOUSEHOLD- Meet Simba, a gorgeous young man who is excited for his next adventure……a new family!
Simba is looking for a family that will have the time and knowledge to help him build his self-confidence in new environments and control his over excited emotions in familiar ones. He will require a dog experienced family who can support him in both situations because he adores human interaction and thrives on human support. Due to his strength and excitability, he would best suit a home with older children 13yrs + because he does not know his own strength and may knock over smaller children.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Simba will require on-going obedience, lead training and confidence building to help improve his manners. He is food motivated and already has decent recall and ‘sit’ command that he can perform with confidence. He is a smart boy and we look forward to seeing what he can learn next!
ON LEAD- Simbas lead manners require some further work because he is strong and tends to pull when excited. He responds well to verbal commands and food treats so once he is in a good routine and we are sure he will be a pleasure to walk or run with in the future.
PLAY/TOYS- In the facility, we are yet to see a true love of toys. He will happily sniff them and is curious about them but can find the action of throwing them scary and will require time to show his true play style at home.
OTHER DOGS- Simba is still learning good dog social manners and will need a dog experienced owner to help maintain his positive interactions.
He is keen to interact with other dogs but can become vocal at times from a distance. He will require time to learn how to maintain a calmer demeanour when first introducing himself and we feel that he could suit an only dog household or living with a canine companion if they were already well socialised themselves.
He would require a meet and greet to make sure he gets along well with any existing furry family members and we unfortunately cannot test for group dog settings such as a visit to the dog parks, beaches etc so if you were hoping to visit these places we would recommend postponing your trip till atleast 3 months post adoption until he has had time to bond with his new family and feel comfortable with his recall commands in a high distraction environment. He is definitely not ready for these environments just yet if ever.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Unfortunately Simba is fearful of the cats here at the facility. He is curious enough to approach them with handler support but does not wish to spend further time with them and moves away asap. To minimise his stress levels in his new home he would be best rehomed without cats.
CARE/GROOMING- Simba has a lovely short coat that is easy to maintain. Weekly brushing, monthly bathing and monthly nail clips will keep him in good condition. He can be abit unsure of new brushes and items held in hands and will require his new family to be patient whilst he gets used to a regular grooming routine.
EXERCISE/NUTRITION- Simba is an energetic young dog and will benefit from daily walks/runs. He will also require time spent with his family at home and as he feels more comfortable he may even offer a game of fetch or tug’o’war. He has not been fussy with his food and has eaten a variety of foods and treats being offered a dry and wet feed diet twice daily.
BREED- American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, DOB 27/3/23
