HOUSEHOLD- Be prepared to turn heads with this handsome man, introducing Marvin!

A stunning larger boy who is looking for a dog experienced home with secure fencing due to his jumping abilities. He would prefer to be allowed inside and out because he likes to be included in daily activities and will require some time put towards training and environmental socialisation due to his lack of exposure in the past.

He appears to be a lover not a fighter and has been friendly towards everyone he meets which makes us think he could suit a variety of home situations but may be best suited in a family environment with any children aged 13yrs and over due to his size and strength.

ON-GOING TRAINING- Marvin will require some on-going training because he has not yet had any done. He does ‘sit’ and offer a ‘paw’ when asked and is always willing to interact with a handler as long as you have the right treats. He actually prefers dry bone shaped treats instead of some more fancy options which surprised us all!

ON LEAD- Marvin is still learning his lead manners and whilst he has moments or brilliance, he can be both strong and shy all at the same time. He will need a confident handler who is willing to support him when he is unsure and we have noticed that he may be best walked with a confident friendly canine companion to help boost his confidence in new areas.

PLAY/TOYS- In the facility toy play with a handler is not as interesting as having pats and cuddles so we are yet to see Marvins’ true play style. He does show interest in toys but no true passion just yet.

OTHER DOGS- Marvin appears to be dog social and could be suitable to live with a canine companion. He will require a meet and greet to make sure they get along well and would not be ready for a dog park or beach setting just yet until he has a chance to bond with his new family, learn recall and unwind from facility life. This could be 3-6mths post adoption and should be taken slow so he can remain social.

CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Unfortunately Marvin is not suitable to live with cats or small creatures due to the excitement they create for him and the stress he would create for them by trying to chase them.

CARE/GROOMING- Marvin has a beautiful easy to maintain coat that will require weekly brushing, monthly bathing and monthly nail clips to keep it looking so fine. He is great with handling and actually tries to turn it into a tummy rub sesh everytime.

EXERCISE- Marvin has energy to burn and will need 1-2 walks daily. He will need time to become comfortable and confident in busier areas so an exercise routine that is flexible to suit him would be best.

NUTRITION- Marvin has shown us no stomach sensitivities whilst in our care. He has been enjoying a combined dry and wet food adult diet and has maintained his weight well. His new family may want to look into food puzzles for his daily feeds to help challenge him mentally and keep him out of mischief!

BREED- Labrador X - DOB 22/6/23

Marvin is located at our Charmhaven Shelter. His $550 adoption fee covers microchipping, desexing, lifetime registration, current vaccination, flea and worming treatments.
