About Brodie
💙 Brodie 💙
HOUSEHOLD- Introducing this big, loveable boy Brodie! As handsome as he is charming, Brodie is looking for a dog experienced home where he can further his education on life and being a good doggie member of society. He has the makings of a great dog but will not do well left to his own devices.
His new family will need to be proactive and have the time and knowledge to lead the way. He would best suit a lifestyle where he can be included in everyday activities and any children would be best to be 13yrs and over due to his size and strength.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Brodie is an intelligent boy who has shown us sit, shake, drop and roll over. He has great potential for more but will need on-going training to continue to refine and build on his existing skill set.
He is not overly food motivated but is toy/play motivated and his new family will need to put energy towards this. He also needs support for his emotional regulation around other dogs and situations where he can become overstimulated and vocal.
ON LEAD- Brodie is still learning to walk on a lead and can be very strong and boisterous at times. He does like to scent mark every tree and really enjoys the experience of getting out and exploring.
He will need a confident walker who can show him how to walk as a team and he can become frustrated when on lead and unable to meet other dogs so his new family will have to spend time to work on his reactive bark that can occur when he sees a dog out walking.
PLAY/TOYS- Brodie LOVES toys and will be happy to play with whatever is on offer. He can be unaware of his own strength and mouth placement during play and will need time to master this.
OTHER DOGS- Brodie has shown himself to be dog social so far, playing with those who want to play with him and settling slowly next to the ones who don’t.
He is abit immature in his social skills and has afew impolite doggie manners (attempting to hump fellow canines if they stand still for too long) but he is still young and shows signs of being able to thrive with other dog friends.
He is suitable to live with another canine companion after a meet and greet but he is not yet ready for dog parks or beaches till he learns some impulse control, recall and confidence in his new home. If you were hoping to visit these places we would recommend postponing your trip till atleast 3mths post adoption until he has had time to settle in and bond with his new family
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- When meeting the cats in the facility Brodie was cool, calm and collected. He displayed curiosity but not focus and could be easily removed from the area even after being startled by a hiss and swipe. From what we have seen Brodie could be rehomed with a feline friend but we will keep monitoring whilst he is in our care.
CARE/GROOMING- Brodie will require an owner who is aware of the extra TLC his long luxurious double coat will take to keep healthy. He will require regular even daily grooming and monthly bathing & nail clipping.
So far he has shown himself to be quite settled with grooming and with an owner implementing a regular routine, he should only improve with age.
EXERCISE/NUTRITION- Brodie is a young large breed dog and requires a good quality diet to give him the energy he needs. He has shown no signs of digestive fussiness and whilst he is not heavily driven by treats he still enjoys some and would benefit from food puzzles, licki mats etc in the home to provide mental stimulation.
BREED- Shepherd X DOB 28/4/23
