About Shelby*On Trial*
*shelby is currently trialling her new home* shelby hopes the easter bunny will bring her a forever home so we’ve had explain to her it doesn’t quite work like that and instead sarg will help this adorable little ragamuffin find somewhere she can be loved unconditionally for the rest of her life!!
recently rescued from our local pound we don’t think shelby’s had much love and positive attention in her past as when she first arrived in care she was quite timid to touching especially around her head/shoulders/back and would submissively roll over as if you were going to hurt her though her carers been constantly stroking her face to get her to relax to touch and she is getting more confident every day. Shelby has a lovely temperament and is happy playing with her carers pup for as long as he likes as she has lots of wriggly energy though can be very calm with her carers older dogs. She eats well, but is not a greedy dog, and is happy to share the biscuit bowl with the others – she was almost skin & bone when she left the pound a month ago so she’s being fattened up quite nicely now. She is not fazed by the household cat and just sniffs her and passes on. Her carer doesn’t think she’d ever been on a lead before and she is progressing nicely now though needs some work on her road sense. Shelby is also picking up “sit”, “stay” and “leave it” as well as “down” as she does jump up a bit especially when she’s excited to see you though she does settle fairly quickly again. Being a sparky, happy, girl she’s also great with kids and puts a smile on their face with her cute antics!
shelby has the most adorable perky ears which make her carer think there may be some papillon in her. Her coat is so soft and silky, no thick underwool, but a nice covering none the less. She does not shed her hair and as it doesn’t grow past the length it is now shelby doesn’t need clipping just a light brush once a week. Shelby sleeps in the laundry at night and is now happy to find her own way there once it gets dark!!!
from her carer: i have noticed shelby loves to come along and watch. She was in the garden recently and she was with me the whole time, and followed me to the clothesline and just sat and listened as i chatted away to her…almost like she understood me. Also for the first time the other day shelby actually hopped into one of the other dogs beds in my alfresco area, so that is definitely a sign that she is relaxing more and is trusting of what is happening around the place, instead of hiding in the garden like she was initially doing. Shelby is a lovely little dog, and i think once she settles down a bit more, and i maintain a reasonably intensive training program with her, she will be a great little companion!
as shelby is house-trained and hasn’t had any “accidents” since in care we would like to see her inside / outside lifestyle continue in her new home with either another friendly dog for company or on her own if she won’t be left alone for long periods of time especially during her settling in period. If you’ve got the loving forever home shelby would enjoy then please download and complete a sarg dog application form by following this link: http://www. Sarg. Net. Au/adoptapet. Html
