BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound

BREED:   American Staffordshire Terrier x Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Breed Traits: American Staffordshire Terriers are high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods and not raised with good training to grow confidence. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs sensible and careful work from an early age.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are affectionate and loving dogs with family - known as Nanny dogs they are great with children if brought up with them correctly. Bold, intelligent, reliable, and loyal, they love to be with their people and do not cope with being alone. They are energetic and need a really good work out every day. Early training is essential, especially consistent and positive socialisation with other dogs.

ASSETS: Laidback and affectionate - he loves to be with his people.

FAVOURITE THINGS: Snuggles and play!! Chunk loves to chase balls and toys and play tug 'o rope. With Chunk cuddles in bed are mandatory and he loves nothing more than getting under the covers and snuggling, but if you aren't careful, he will steal the hooman's comfy spot!!

ENDEARING FEATURES: Chunk has the sweetest face and can warm your heart in seconds with his happy waggy tail. He loves to please and be a good boy and is most talented - he can make Wookie sounds; loves tossing toys to himself; he's a big kisser and sometimes pretends to be a rock :)

OTHER ANIMALS: Chunk is being fostered with two resident dogs that he gets on with very well. He has had a Dachshund best friend so may be able to live with a smaller dog. He has been cat tested and cannot live with a cat or other small animals.

GENERAL INFO: Chunk is a medium to large breed dog and needs to go to a home with an experienced owner, who can put in the time to work with Chunk on a daily basis. Chunk lacks some confidence, but his carer has been working with him diligently and Chunk now copes well with new situations and environments. He can be a little wary of men but this is improving. Chunk benefits greatly from living with a confident dog that can show him the way.

ESSENTIALS for Chunk:  

** an active home with another confident dog. He can live with a full-time worker as long as he gets the exercise and interactivity/training that he needs.

** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night  

** a decent sized, well fenced garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore in safety

** training for him to continue to grow confidence – essential 

** continued positive exposure and socialisation

Chunk has not lived with children throughout his time with us. He may be able to live with older children (teenagers) if they are dog savvy, respectful and calm around him. He would do very well in an adult only home.
