Meet Stormy,
About: Stormy is a sweet & gentle girl. She is best suited to an owner who has dog owner experience and/or experienced with dogs with medical needs as Stormy is deaf. Stormy is generally quiet but if she wants your attention she will do a high pitch bark. She is able to settle quite quickly as well.
Stormy is happy & friendly and is suitable for any household environment, as she is easy going. Stormy would also make a great adventure buddy for people who are active, and those who spend quality time outdoors as she loves to explore.
Ideal Home: Stormy is suitable to live in a townhouse, house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Having access to inside the home would be perfect for Stormy as she is a lovely & affectionate girl and loves to be near her human friends.
Family: Stormy is open to meet kids from 5 years & up, reason for this is simply due to her being deaf. Older kids will be more understanding of her special needs.
Stormy is best to live with people who work part-time hours.
Furry Friends: Stormy is best to be the only dog in the home. During her dog assessment she was able to meet the other dog without much issue apart from a bit of confusion at the start, but she is not interested in making friends and is happier doing her own thing then entertaining/playing with other dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Stormy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Stormy would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience or one on one with a professional who specialises with deaf dogs so that she can learn hand signal commands.
Stormy could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event providing that she has had further training.
Naturally Stormy doesn’t know her name (as she cannot hear you say it) and so far, she is unable to perform any tricks on commands – that is where specialised deaf training would come in to it – but we are trying to mark & reward when she does do a trick with hand gestures.
Stormy is food motivated & loves her devon, so having some on hand during training sessions would be a great idea!
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Stormy had mid-range energy levels as she is excitable & playful. She would benefit from exercise, playtime or walks anywhere from 20-30mins a day to keep her happy. Stormy loves to play with soft, plush toys.
Stormy walks well on a lead with minimal pulling & she responds well to a small, light tug on the lead to change direction.
Staff Comments: Stormy is a very sweet, loving dog who loves to be around people. She likes to play with soft toys when you throw them to her. She also loves her belly being rubbed and loves to stretch her legs & run on the long line.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
