About Fergus
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Fergus
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender
BREED: Maltese x Shih Tzu
BREED TRAITS: The Maltese is easy going, affectionate, lively, intelligent and sweet tempered. They do not tolerate being left alone and are definitely inside dogs as they suffer in extremes of temperature. Maltese adore their family, are pretty dog friendly but can be a little wary of strangers. They are low shedders but require regular grooming. Smart and playful they are quite easy to train. A small dog with big trousers they can have a tendency to bark at unknown sights and sounds.
The Shih Tzu is lively, intelligent, spunky, affectionate, outgoing and are happy dogs. They have an ability to get on with people of all ages, other dogs and pet species. They can suffer from the heat and cold so are not outside dogs. They are companion/lap dogs and just want to be with their people.

ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, devoted, friendly, laidback, quiet, sweet and playful. He has the sweetest personality and is a joy to have around.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Fergus loves to get out and about for car rides and loves to chase balls and play with his stuffed toys. He’s very devoted and adores cuddles and naps on the couch with his person.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s a very smart boy, he loves to be chatted to and will tilt his head when you speak to him. He also gives toothy grins and when he really likes something he gives a very animated display!
OTHER ANIMALS: Fergus enjoys the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play with them. He is curious around the cats in his foster home so could probably live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Fergus walks well on his lead and is housetrained and uses a doggy door. He rarely barks and knows a few commands. Fergie is a wonderful companion and is well behaved, loyal and affectionate. Fergie is very obedient and smart and is afraid when there are thunderstorms around. Fergus will need regular grooming to maintain his lovely coat.
ESSENTIALS for Fergus:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out. He would suit active retirees or someone who works from home.
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Fergus needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Fergus needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
**As Fergus is now an older dog he would be better placed in an adult only home or with older children.
Fergus could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12 years who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would also enjoy the company of another dog in his new home, or at least have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Fergus sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
