Meet Butters,

About: Previously named Bullet, we thought that this sweet & gentle boy deserved a name that truly reflects his personality. Butters is best suited to an owner who has experience as he is a little nervous, shy & timid. In addition to these behaviours, Butters is also friendly & affectionate. He loves cuddles & loves to give kisses. Butters is happy & although may be reserved at first, he does become quite excited as he is eager to make friends and explore but he needs a helping hand to boost his confidence in areas of 'new'. Butters loves to play & may be a little boisterous at times during play time.

Butters is best suited to a calm & quiet home as he is sensitive to loud noises & chaotic movements.

Ideal Home: Butters is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium-large sized yard & high secure fencing. Access to inside the home would be ideal so that Butters can feel like part of a family again.

Family: Butters is open to meet kids from 6 years & up, reason for this is again due to his timidity. Butters is also fine to live with people who work part-time hours.

Furry Friends: Butters is best to be the only dog in the home. Although Butters previously lived with another dog, his dog assessment indicated that he is not interested in making dog friends as he want to respect his wishes. He was able to make it very clear about how he felt about other dogs.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Butters would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Butters would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & one on one with a professional to assist him with his confidence & timidity & dog reactivity.

Butters is still learning his name, but he knows how to ‘sit’.

Butters is food motivated, so having treats on hand would be a great tool to have during training sessions. Butters is known to take treats from your hand gently too.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Butters has mid-range energy levels, and he would benefit from exercise, walking or playtime from 20-30mins per day.

Butters walks ok on a lead, he does need some leash training as he is quite strong despite his small size. He is best walked on a martingale.

Staff Comments: Butters was under-socialised in his previous home, so staff are having to work overtime to counter correct. Butters came in with another dog, the other dog was reclaimed, however Butters was left with us. We unfortunately did not get any info regarding Butters from his previous owners about behaviour but we can only assume that he did not get a lot of exposure, training or socialisation from his previous owners. Butters is trying his best to be a good boy but he will need a committed & patient owner for him to truly thrive.
