Meet Butch,
About: Butch is a true character who will make you laugh,. He is suitable for first time owners or those with experience as he is agreeable, friendly & smart. Butch has an outgoing, confident personality and he is curious & excitable. Butch is such a happy boy, he is very playful and we are confident that he has ants in his pants because this boisterous boy just can't stop wiggling his little bottom or tapping his feet. Butch is affectionate & super social & he love how pint-sized he is!
Butch is suitable to any household environment & would be a great dog for active people who spend lots of time outdoors, on the move. Butch loves to explore and he would get a real kick out of being taken on adventures.
Ideal Home: Butch is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium-large sized yard & high secure fencing. Butch would love to have access to inside the home, preferably at night, during the day he will happily entertain himself buy playing or finding a sunny spot for a quick kip.
Family: Butch is open to meet kids of any age, but he is boisterous so kids should be confident to be 'round a confident dog. And whilst he is on the smaller side he may still accidentally knock kids over.
Butch is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: During his dog assessment Butch was overstimulated. However, once the excitement wore off he was then able to focus on his handler and settle. He met the other dog with loose body & a happy tail but he is a bit of a chatty boy and likes to vocalise during play time. We feel that Butch would be best as the only dog in the home for now, just until he learns some social skills & how to properly interact with other dogs. His excitable behaviour and vocalisation may be off putting to some dogs. Butch needs more socialisation & desensitisation.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Butch would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Butch would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience &group classes to assist with his social etiquette around other dogs.
Butch knows his name, and he also knows how to ‘sit’.
Butch is food motivated, so having treats on hand would be a great tool to have during training sessions. Butch is known to take treats from your hand gently too. But he may jump up to get them, but we are working on this behaviour.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Butch has high-range energy levels, and he would benefit from exercise, walking or playtime from 30-60mins per day to keep him happy, healthy & content. Butch shows interest in toys, but he much prefers personal play with people.
Butch walks ok on a lead, but he does pull from excitement. He is best walked either on a martingale or body harness for more control.
Staff Comments: Butch is super energetic & playful, but he can focus with full attention if offered a treat. He's a dog that will need his mind stimulated (food puzzles, training sessions etc). You will often see him tapping his front feet with anticipation when asked to sit for extended periods of time.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
