Meet Berlin,
About: Berlin is best suited to experienced owners as she is a nervous & sensitive dog who has some mild anxious tendencies. A true shepherd, Berlin is also alert & takes in the world around her. Berlin is friendly, she is social & is excited to make friends. Berlin is growing in confidence everyday and is becoming very affectionate & demure in nature.
Berlin is best suited to a calm & quiet home as she is sensitive to loud noises & big movements.
Ideal Home: Berlin is fine to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium-large sized yard & high secure fencing. Access to inside the home would be a bonus for Berlin as being inside will help her adjust to her new home, be around her family & feel like part of the pack! Berlin is most at ease when she is around people that she trusts.
Family: Berlin is open to meet kids from 10 years & up, reason for this is again due to her anxiety. Berlin is a true gentle giant but her size coupled with her mild anxiety could mean that she accidentally knock smaller kids over. She would need older kids in the home that can appreciate her boundaries.
Berlin is fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Berlin is best to be the only dog in the home. During her dog assessment, she showed interest during the walk with a loose, relaxed body. However as the assessment went on her frustration grew. Berlin is already stressed in kennel, so we feel that her stress was also prohibiting her from being completely relaxed during the assessment. In a different environment, where she is more settled, she has a high chance of being more relaxed, resulting in more social experiences.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Berlin would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Berlin would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience &one on one with a professional to assist with her mild anxiety.
Berlin is still learning her name, but she knows such commands like 'sit', 'down' & 'shake'.
Berlin is a little fussy with food. She currently eats raw meat & she loves it, she doesn't like wet dog food. As for treats, she only likes salmon jerky or dried liver treats.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Berlin has mid-range energy levels, and she would benefit from exercise, walking or playtime from 20-30mins per day. Berlin loves to play with squeaky toys.
Berlin walks well on a lead only pulling occasionally, she does need some leash training as she can tend to do circles when walking as she is often on alert, especially in this environment, with so much going on. She is best walked on a harness & lead.
Staff Comments: Berlin is the most gentle & affectionate girl. She is very anxious in this environment but will always give staff cuddles. She is growing in confidence every day compared to how she was when she first came in.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
