About Trixie
Introducing Trixie!
Trixie is a Border Collie born 6th December 2019.
Trixie has just been surrendered to the facility as her owners have become homeless. She was left in the care of a family member while he got back on his feet, but as time went on, the person he trusted to look after her could no longer do so and her situation became dire. Her surrender profile states she is mostly kept outdoors, so she is not house trained. She travels well in the car, is friendly with children & adult strangers. She gets along with cats and dogs, but she does like to bop them on the head when trying to play. Trixie prefers to have other animals at home, so she will need to have another dog or cat in her new home. She will need to be fed separately from other animals. We've been told she's a big sook and LOVES human attention (we have already been smothered with kisses and cuddles at the facility). She loves rope toys and trying to chase birds while out on walks.
Since being at the facility Trixie has showed all staff & volunteers nothing but love & affection. She's playful with toys and very gentle. We believe she would cuddle with you all day if you let her.
Trixie tested well with other dogs at the facility. She was very calm & interacted with each dog according to their individual needs (ie was calm, relaxed and submissive when needed and playful when the other dog was playful). We agree with Trixie's previous owner, that she would be more comfortable in a home with another dog to keep her company. If you have a friendly dog at home we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Unfortunately Trixie has shown signs of having prey drive at the facility, so she will need to be in a home with no smaller animals such as cats, chickens & rabbits.
Trixie has shown no signs of food aggression towards humans, however she does have food aggression towards other animals, so she will need to be fed separately from other animals in the home.
Trixie has shown no signs of separation anxiety while being at the facility.
Trixie would thrive in a home where she is included as a part of the family.
Given Trixie is a working breed, she has VERY high energy needs and will need to be adopted to an owner who is either experienced with the breed or who is prepared to meet her mental and physical needs.
Trixie's adoption fee is $450 and includes her desexing and lifetime registration.
Trixie has been treated for flea and worms and is up to date with her vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
