About Winston
Let us introduce you to Winston, our beautiful chocolate Australian Labradoodle. Born on 27th November, 2023, Winnie (as he is affectionately known) is almost 9 months old and is ready for his next adventure and permanent home. He is being rehomed due to no fault of his own; his family truly adored him but their circumstances have changed and we are not here to judge them. We are looking for the "perfect" home for Winnie and HE MUST HAVE ANOTHER DOG IN THE FAMILY to play with - a pal roughly around the same size as him (25-30kg) is needed as he can be a bit of a boofhead and not realise how big he is. He is still a puppy and is learning as he goes. He was enrolled into Puppy School and also received some training from our local highly experienced dog trainer and is as smart as they come.
Almost everyone would know the Labradoodle by now, the breed has been around for many years and is one of the most popular sought after mixed breeds. Do not believe that all Australian Labradoodles are non shed dogs - some shed and some do not. This result all depends on the parents, basically the answer depends on genetics.
Australian Labradoodles are very loving and adore a cuddle when they feel tired and need attention; Winnie can be a real sook when he wants to be and he is used to being around his humans most of the day. He has been used to sleeping indoors at night and is toilet trained and very clean. He can be stand-offish when introduced to someone for the first time, so patience and understanding will be needed when introducing him into a new environment until he becomes familiar and comfortable.
60 minutes of exercise each day is recommended for this breed - can do 2-3 split sessions of 30 minutes each - walking or jogging. Playing and chasing balls in the backyard is a good way of wearing him out too.
Grooming plays a very big part in owning an Australian Labradoodle too - they need clipping every 6 to 8 weeks as a general rule, and can be subject to ear infections from an early age.
Australian Labradoodles are a combination of the very popular Golden Retriever and Poodle - both of these dog breeds were bred to be water dogs, so most dogs enjoy being in or around water.
Their exuberant energy and larger size may pose challenges for first time owners raising an Australian Labradoodle puppy. We would ask you to do your homework on this breed, if you haven't previously owned an Australian Labradoodle, before applying to adopt Winnie.
Winnie has a life expectancy of approximately 12-15 years and we would hope that he can remain in the same family unit for his lifetime. He will require a large fully fenced, secure yard (we prefer colourbond).
Winnie is in foster care in the Kempsey area (approx 5 hours from Sydney and 30 minutes from Port Macquarie).
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
