About Mabel
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Mabel
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Beagle x
Breed Traits: A beagle is a small scent hound used for hunting hare. They are active, hardy, affectionate and also stubborn so training requires patience. They love to use their nose, are inquisitive, determined and food focused. Being pack dogs they generally get along well with other animals and humans. They need plenty of exercise - at least an hour a day - and can be destructive if unexercised or bored. Beagles can climb so require good high fencing to contain them.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, outgoing, confident, playful and very sweet. She’s a gentle girl who loves to be loved!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Mabel loves to chase a ball, play tug of war and play fight with her brother. She has a stuffed duck toy that she absolutely loves. She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down with her person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Mabel has a beautiful gentle personality and will take every opportunity to curl up next to you for a cuddle and snooze!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction
.
GENERAL INFO: Mabel will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but she still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while she’s settling into her new home and routine! She barks when playing and is sensitive to loud noises. She’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized or just under as mum is a Beagle x but there are no guarantees (dad is not known).
ESSENTIALS for Mabel:
** an active, calm, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Mabel will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium, and high energy at times as an adult dog. Beagles are high energy dogs and excellent companions for active people.
Mabel could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 to 8 years of age, depending on experience, who will play and interact with her but know when to give her space.
If Mabel sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
